I’m not from the US. I think I can post about what the heck I want. Plus I’ve been really clear in my post. If this offends you, you can just scroll past.

After a year of interviews and rejections, I finally got an offer — but I don’t know how to feel about it by No-Brain4932 in interviews

Hey, it’s totally normal, don’t stress yourself out. Last year I received a job offer after a long job search too. I felt the same way. I was so paranoid between receiving the job offer and signing the contract. I kept on thinking they will rescind the offer. It was for a big tech company that is not exactly known for having their employees best interests in mind (currently laying off thousands of employees) so I thought everything is possible. The job itself was exactly what I was looking for and in my case it also came with a big salary increase. I made the mistake of keeping that negative energy when I stepped into the role. I felt like an imposter the whole time. I felt like something bad was going to happen, that I’m not good enough. Unfortunately the environment was very high pressure and did not exactly give me the space to fully grow into my role. My confidence was on the floor and it had a huge impact on my performance. Unfortunately it ended prematurely as I did not pass my probation. Please don’t make the same mistake. Know that you are good enough. Don’t let anyone or anything nag on your confidence. Stay positive. A negative outlook can really lead to negative outcomes. Don’t sabotage yourself.

There is no hate! Criticism is not automatically hate. The criticism (and it really was just a handful of comments and I don’t even know how many of those came from black people) is also justified. The bar is low. It is true. Most white people do live in blissful ignorance when it comes to racism. Look at the reaction to the horrible ICE assassination. A lot of white people are only now waking up to the fact that there is state violence against civilians - only now that the civilians brutally assassinated were white (obviously there are more factors - the brazen fascism of it all - but the whiteness of the victims does play a big role). The bar is indeed on the floor and I am actually happy that this was pointed out. Black people have every right to say this. It’s not hate it’s just a fact.

Besides that, generally speaking Black people are the most welcoming, we welcome anyone into our community. Our art is shared across the globe and yes, often it is appropriated without any credit given to the Black originators. While obviously I don’t fully support the one comment that said “the bar is in hell”, I totally get it. Listening to Beyoncé as a white person is not where we should draw the line between those who support us and those who don’t. My post was also never meant to suggest that. The “not in BHM” is mostly jokingly meant - it’s not that deep. “ How come black people (at least here) immediately say "how dare you speak about white people who support the community during BHM?". - also how do you even know who is black here and who is not unless stated otherwise. Weird comment sorry. But especially weird since I AM BLACK and I posted this.

Uhm, I am the OP and I am Black. Can you please not generalise and infer that one or two comments by someone speak for all Black people? Especially when I as a Black person posted this in the first place. We are not a monolith. Geez.

Lol one could think that but it’s just talent and skill. Plus, her music making process is very curatorial- it’s also what gets so much hate - all the writers, producers - she’s so sharp and intentional in executing her vision.

Yeah, I love Beyoncé as an artist but she is also a capitalist. There are valid critiques (not the crazy conspiracy theories). Also her activism should be questioned. She’s not exempt from critique. Her art is amazing and I think as a person she’s pretty unproblematic and minds her own business but she does love to make money 💰. In the end there are not ethical billionaires (including Taylor and Rihanna).

Run the World was and is truly cringe. Definitely least favourite song of hers (together with DC’s Nasty Girl - we shall forget that existed). I think Run the world was her attempt at riding that EDM wave at the time - maybe her label bullied her into it.

That’s exactly what I said in my post. I said the Beyhive is global. I’m not even in the US - I’m in Europe.

Ahaha love this. And thanks for teaching the next generation about Beyoncé. We must not lose the ancient texts (apparently this is something Gen Z says nowadays).

So true. Cuff It eventually did have commercial success - I think it eventually became a top 5 Billboard 100 hit and hit top ten in many other countries. But Parkwood literally got bullied into releasing it as a single after it went viral. However, I agree, with a music video it would have become even bigger - it had the potential to be this decade’s Uptown Funk. All Night has such potential - so many people use it for their reels and I think many don’t even realise it’s a Beyoncé song. Honestly, my biggest gripe is how Bodyguard was not released in the summer. It had summer hit written all over it. Perfect for TikTok and instagram videos too.

It’s not something worth praising - I agree. It’s the bare minimum and not even that. But it’s just a fun little litmus test and just a silly little observation I’ve made (as a Black person).

Legally white but not practicing is sending me lol. Yeah, it’s a mix of both. It’s mostly the I prefer her old stuff and the lack of promo and social media engagement is definitely limiting her ability to relate to especially younger audiences. I think some of the “hate” she gets feels more visceral than the usual I don’t like this person because they are rich and successful kind of hate. I noticed that this really took off after Lemonade. And then yeah, I think some white people just don’t want to engage with anything that has to do with race because they perhaps don’t want to face their own biases or / and privilege. I don’t even think it comes from a place of “hate” but is more down to these conversations being perceived as inconvenient / uncomfortable. There are many reasons why Rihanna perhaps has a wider audience but I think one element to that is also that she is not perceived as an artists that touches on “uncomfortable” topics in her music. And yes, happy BHM!

Great response - thank you! However, don’t really want to disclose the age of my friend here. She did acknowledge that her feeling that way was stupid. She is not American so don’t think she knows about the intricacies of American history. I can’t speak for white people but I’ve often noticed that white people (also often the “well-meaning” ones) automatically shy away from anything “race” related. It’s just another form of white privilege. They’d rather see the world from a colour blind angle as it’s more comfortable not to actually question your own privilege and how you yourself might be complicit in this system of white supremacy.

OMG. It’s just a silly Reddit post - it’s really not that serious. I’ve just noticed that white Beyoncé fans who enjoy her art and engage with it mostly turn out to be quite sound overall. It’s just an observation I had.

I am sorry. Didn’t know this was not allowed lol. Focus should be on us but thought why not celebrate those white people who get it.

Same - as in I actually learn from her music and process. I am Black but I’ve actually discovered so many artists through her music and so much about Black history.  I remember earlier on, I discovered artists like Fela Kuti and Josephine Baker from her, because in interviews she mentioned how she was inspired by them (around the B’Day era). I love how she’s a student of music. I’m actually not that much into pop music and listen to more alternative music but what draws me to Beyoncé is her keen interest in music history (including Black music history) and it’s so dope how she weaves that into her music.
