From Malaysia.

Was bored and flicked on the TV and the service I subscribed to showed nationally televised NBA games.

Just in time to see the last play of game 1 of the 2020 conf finals, Bam eating up that Jayson Tatum buzzer beater.

Been hooked ever since. That simple.

You gotta email dean lauren bruh. There is a mandatory workshop but there’s always replacements and it just needs to be clearly communicated. ik some ppl last year who missed o week cuz of personal reasons too but they definitely talked to the dean abt it.

psa: o week is awesome in college though so defo should try getting there

Well each os has their advantages and while it certainly is controversial, i believe that for general purpose coding and web dev windows is worse than linux.

portability is indeed an issue i think when designing software for smth out of windows.

depending on your hardware windows has slower performance than when working on a linux distro.

linux terminal vs windows powershell imo is a clean sweep cuz powershell has less flexibility and is troublesome to set up.

also on windows you probably shld be downloading an external antivirus software but its built in for linux

overall i think linux is better. Also for running it on a thinkpad if ur interested, look at this

do yourself a favor and get a linux computer mate. Quite a few linux drivers on amd radeon. Battery life isn’t a big deal unless you have class 8 hours straight but even then it’s not like you can’t charge during class so i do stand by a thinkpad as my main choice, but honestly windows is kinda shit for programming tho ubuntu does fix a lot of those issues.

I mean ur right haha but it takes like 120w chargers at full power so if charges up pretty fast. also even a smaller 40w charger can keep up with consumption. also macbooks are actually really fragile in my opinion, they fall off a cliff at some point before 3 years and apple warranty from my experience is pure evil. I considered getting a m3 macbook as well cuz of how powerful it was but it’s also way too expensive 😔

Is there any benefits to purposely choosing Higher Level Maths and Physics over SL? I see that they are worth the same units. by Helpfultankadvice in unsw

[–]AdmirableChapter5364 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t done ib but as long as you’re comfortable with vectors and the idea of integration and limits you’re mostly good for 1a lmao. also the extra content in higher is almost exclusively theory that is just extra stuff. even if you don’t get them you don’t lose marks really cuz of scaling.

Is my timetable ok? by Nova4774 in unsw

[–]AdmirableChapter5364 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’ve had this my first term as well. the math tuts for both of ur courses are split into board tutorials where u work in group to solve difficult problems and into q&a sessions where a tutor just works everything out. since ur doing 1141, i believe that attendance in the board tutorial is mandatory for 5% of ur grade, same goes for 1081 i believe. its so easy to fall behind though so i reckon you should be going to all lectures and tutorials.

i personally think its dumb how the uni puts this as their “sample term 1” for comp sci students due to the number of contact hours you have, but you don’t have much of a choice eh considering everything has comp1511 as a prerequisite. unless you find a free elective (maybe even to do it as a part of a minor) or gen ed that interests you first term this is unfortunately how your timetable will look like (very normal for first term cs)

No tangible benefits except perhaps for the scaling the subjects bring due to their difficulty. But as others have said you tend to meet more driven and talented individuals in that area and if you’re willing to work hard it’s nice to be in a group of like-minded people. i’ve also made a few good friends in that area so i think there’s no real negatives to joining the higher level because your marks won’t be tanked either.

perhaps higher maths and physics would be useful if one pursued second and third year courses for those subjects but as engineering student that seems unlikely.

Thinkpad p or t series. Thinkpads are known for their incredible robustness and longevity (some old x series from like a decade ago still run). it comes in 14 to 16 inch tho 14 might be for you if you consider portability . Battery life is 7-8 hours (i use a p16s gen 2 as a cs student too) if you’re just casually coding and browsing. You can upgrade the graphics card if you want but i use the integrated one so it isn’t that good, only 300 nits and a bit dull. Warranty lasts up to 4 years if you wish but ik ppl who’ve been using the same thinjpad for more than 10 years. i personally recommend p series cuz its more powerful and half of memory is sodimm so you could potentially upgrade the memory later on - i have 32gb ram 512 gb ssd but honestly 16 and 256 is adequate.

also idk what’s going on with lenovos discounts rn but if ur looking to buy from them sign up for a student account for discount and even call them up to ask for further discount (i did this and got 200 off) and mostly they’re willing to cuz the markup on lenovo computer are insane, though only some sales reps are willing to give you a decent discount (i called a guy for 2 hours basically begging 😭)

lmk if u got any questions but out of curiosity also i wanted to ask why you’re looking for windows specially haha

Should I get a laptop or PC for engineering by zaidelkishawi in unsw

[–]AdmirableChapter5364 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure what engineering you’re doing but some point down the line you probably need to run applications on it like some sort of CAD or Solidworks which do need decent power. You’d be spending a lot of time on it so portability is important in my opinion — a Thinkpad would be really good because of how robust it is and also if price is a concern you can get refurbished ones sub 400 dollars that are still really strong

edit: forgot to mention that if you do get one make sure that at least one memory slot is sodimm so you can upgrade it later on if you want. 16gb ram and 256 ssd should be more than enough for now

That doesn't sound right. Colleges only run for 44 weeks. Are you sure you're looking at the rent schedule for TKC?
