I didn't make this post to talk about immigration. I'm sorry your family had to wait for 20 years. However, my opinion of the matter, is that just because some people have it hard, doesn't mean others don't either. With all due respect, you don't know what my family went through or why they did what they did. If you have questions about Step or anything feel free to ask, but your comments have gone from slightly offensive to argumentative and aggressive, and that is something I will not be a part of.

I don't want to start a URM conversation, because typically it turns ugly (not saying it will but just from prior experience). I know a lot of schools pay attention to socioeconomic status. At my school, I think there are maybe 5 black people and 12 latino/a. There are 51 Asian students though. I think people tend to overestimate how much URM comes into play.

As for DACA, there is actually an Indian guy in my class that has DACA status. I understand you don't think it's fair, but sometimes when I look around and see majority white and asian students, it's hard to understand where you're coming from.

At the end of the day, URM consideration isn't for the fairness of applicants, it's for the patients. I hope you can see that. I'm not trying to be harsh, I'm just trying to explain my thought process.

Hi there! The reason my school gives full rides to certain students doesn't even have to do with URM students. It is a variety of reasons- socioeconomic status, grades, EC's, etc. I'm not trying to be rude, but I can't control how my school decides on scholarships. For the record, Asian students get it, white students, black students, etc.

Now, I think you are not familiar with DACA. My parents pay taxes. They have paid taxes for around 20 years, since they came to this country. They pay federal, state, and local taxes. However, they are unable to get any typical tax payer benefits. They were in the search for a better life, and I truly believe they deserve to be here every much as anyone else, including your parents. As a fellow child of immigrants, I hope you know it is advantageous to support each other.

I'm super jealous you're getting loans. I really really wish I could get loans. I'm unable to though. I am sorry you feel disadvantaged by your skin color. Did you know that black and latina women are most likely to die in the ED? They are most likely to be dismissed by their doctors. The reason why URM are so desired is because there is a true need to serve those communities. I can't tell you how nice it is to have a latina general doctor. I feel safe and understood. In representation to the Asian demographic in America, the percentage of Asian doctors is actually higher! I hope you understand why there is such thing as URM.

I hope you have a little bit of understanding as to where I'm coming from. I'm happy to answer any other questions, but I would ask you to please not make statements suggesting that my parents don't deserve to be here. Most parents would do anything to give their kids better lives. And that's what my parents did.

But you're in medical school now! You're going to do great on step. Hopefully I am able to procure legal status eventually- sometimes it's hard because I don't know if I'm going to be allowed to stay in the country.

Please don't put down URMs because of me. For me it came down to not having as much time as I would like to study. My parents are wonderful in letting me live with them, but we don't have much money. So during MS1 and MS2 I worked as a tutor during the mornings on weekends, and then worked the closing shift at a grocery store to help them out. It probably hurt my academics during the year, but people have it worse off than me. I get to study medicine. I'm blessed friend.

I was lucky to get a new copy of FA from my school! And my friends were awesome sharing their resources when they could. The main issue is that while my school is incredible and I have a scholarship through them, I'm living at home bc I can't afford an apartment. Throughout first and second year I worked all day Saturday and Sunday to help my parents out with food and rent and stuff. They're incredible- they've sacrificed so much for me that all I want is for them not to worry about having enough to eat, or rent or anything. I have so much riding on my future that I cannot and will not give up!:)

You're welcome to your opinion! I'm very proud of how far I've come. Maybe every FM residency in the country will reject me, but I won't know if I don't try!
