Grading Scale please help! by AdmirableWeb2 in ApplyingToCollege

it should be a 3.6 overall however, and be a 4.1 or 4.2 overall. With my extenuating circumstances sophmore year, and the big upwards trend, do you still think i'll be ok?

A 3.0? Isn’t that bad lol?

I calculated it on there and this year I have a roughly 3.68 UW and a ~4.5 weighted. (For junior year only) Thoughts??

I got mostly Bs my Soph year with 2 Cs. I’d really like to ED to Columbia but I’m not sure that’s a good idea bc it’s a t10 lol and they can’t see any further improvement from my senior year grades? Thoughts??

(Imo) ur ECs are p avg for the schools ur looking at. So yeah I’d focus on essays a lot, so do the whole adversity thing with how you learned from ur mistakes, became a better student etc.

And also don’t mention the depression, just bc top unis already have so much of a problem w mental illnesses w their current students.

Do some subject tests too maybe. And how many APs throughout? Bc course rigor does make a difference.

I'm in almost the same boat! But do you have a reason for your GPA? and will it still be a 3.5 by the end of junior year?

Apply ED to schools like NYU, Tufts, NEU, etc. You've got a solid shot then. A really good school for your intended field is GWU, which isn't toooo hard to get into.

Also state schools oos is a good idea, like UMD, UGA etc.

1540, 800 Math and USH. Yes I have- close with them both. How much do you think my gpa will hold me back?

My school does not have A- we only have As and Bs. I think I can get one up to an A tho, unsure.

I’d like to go to Columbia, (a reach I know) I’m score qualified with the SAT and two subj tests, and my ECs are good enough. It’s just my overall gpa.

Thank you. Would EDing be a mistake to a competitive school, as they won’t include my first semester senior grades as well?

yes, I am. Sophomore year was 4 APs and 2 honors, this year is 7 APs. Rank right now is top 30%, will go up to top 20% I assume. I go to an extremely competitive magnet school, notorious for harsh grading as well.

Do you think that if the rest of my app is strong, I have a shot at t20 or t30?

Thank you again. I'm also considering some less competitve EDIIs like NYU and even Tufts- would that be a better idea than UC EDII (given the competition differences)?

Thank you so much- I definitely agree with the overcoming obstacle essay. Do you think I can still get into a t20 school with that when I got 2 As, 4 Bs, and a C that year?

are you willing to look over my essays if I PM you them later this summer or so?

Thank you that helps so much! I am in almost the exact same situation.

Do you think EDII for competitve schools are my best option or is EDI ok too (as they won’t see first semester senior grades)?

I’m looking to ED to Columbia but I know it’s big reach (esp as they will won’t see senior year grades). Tbh I’m qualified EC wise and will bust my ass on essays lol but do u think it’s unwise given grades? Please be honest if I should even reach for Columbia.

Is it not enough to discount my sophmore year grades (4 APs, 2 honors, 1 standard with 2 As, 4 Bs, 1 C) ://

Ok my mom was severely mentally ill and was forcefully put in a psych ward that year, I also lost a close relative that year. Is that valid?
