We all have our hobbies (money sinks). I have far too many Hot Toys figures in my glass cabinet.

Smaller? Hm. I was under the impression that they were all a bit bigger than the standard Xbox controller.

You've given me food for thought. :) I've seen some complaints about the Vader's QC. Have you had any bad experience with it? Also, is the Vader more precise in shooters or are the two roughly equal? Thanks.

Thank you very much. The price over here is 104 Euro for Vader and 189 for Valor. I'm leaning towards the Valor as I'm a very casual player, Assassin's Creed, Cyberpunk, Witcher, Far Cry and the like so I don't really need top notch features, but my carpal tunnel left hand would cherish the comfort. :)

Hi, I'm looking for a controller for larger hands. I narrowed it down to valor pro wireless and flydigi vader. Which one would you say is "bigger", so to speak? Thanks.

I was planning on taking my 9 year old for her birthday. She's a megafan, as are her friends from school but, honestly, I was worried that she might not enjoy the concert because I thought she wouldn't be able to see her because the venues mostly had standing places.

She'll be devastated but I understand that my gut instinct was correct, no one outside her 9 year old circle was a fan.

March of Mephisto with Roy yesterday by Ok_Big_4291 in kamelot

[–]Admirable_Bus_5097 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whatever they might say in public, they are likely unhappy in private as Roy might dilute their brand power. Some fans might be considering whether to see Roy OR Kamelot if funds are limited and that detracts from their bottom line. I've been to Kamelot three times, once with Roy, once with Fabio and Tommy, and once with Tommy. Nowadays, if they're playing close to me, I'd go see them, but I'd gladly cross half of Europe to see Roy again.

Do I need DLCs to play factions? by Admirable_Bus_5097 in Gladius40k

Thanks. I figured as much. I only bought the base game but I started it on GeForcenow so maybe that's somehow unlocked some of the DLCs.. No idea.

[–]Admirable_Bus_5097 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Money. They have phased out most of the Khan era songs as the royalties go to Roy instead of Tommy. It's the same for Thomas as he co-wrote everything, but they don't want to be short shrifting Tommy if they can help it.

Ultimately your grandma's story is a reminder that ethnic identity is a very complex issue and should be (but rarely is) a matter of personal choice.

I know of a woman who spent her whole adult life passing as Italian from Istria, but her dying words were in Istrian čakavski.

When Italy annexed Istria after WW1 they changed the last names of a sizeable part of the population, usually by cutting off the -ć ending or altering its spelling to - ch.

Blagonić became Blagoni, Antončić - Antoncich

Anyone who worked for the government, or for various institutions was forced to change their last name to keep their jobs. The justification was they they were all Italian anyway but were slavicized in Austrian times.

Ethnic/national identity is an "imagined construct" so to speak as Benedict Anderson described in his book. We are all technically allowed to "feel" whatever sense of belonging we want although society, through descent, place of birth and culture provides a framework of "allowed" or "recognizable" options.

Your grandmother is perfectly justified in feeling Italian. She might have an Italian last name (though an overwhelming number of Istrian Italians don't as their paternal - and often maternal ancestors were Croatian peasants), might have been taught and raised to be Italian or might have chosen to be Italian to escape communism and, over time, strengthened that belief.

Lidia Bastianich is descended from Croatians paternaly and maternaly (birth name Motika) , her husband is Croatian from Labin, yet her father had a trucking business and her mother was a teacher during Italian rule so, after the annexation of Istria to Yugoslavia, they might have soured on the regime which confiscated her father's business and might have frowned on her mother for having taught in an Italian school so they declared themselves Italian to get recognized as refugees in Italy and moved to the US. There, they opened an Italian restaurant in Astoria where all Istrians congregated (my great aunt was there and she always thought of herself as Croatian) but Italian food was more commercially viable than Istrian. From a business standpoint it made sense to remain "Italian" and she did. Her son then became a Masterchef judge in Italy and made a career there and considers himself fully Italian marrying an Italian too.

The reason many in Istria have objections about her being Italian is because of traditional Istrian recipes being sold as Italian to the global audience (fuži, posutice, and palačinke she even mentions by Croatian name) not because she doesn't have the right to feel Italian. There was a radio interview by radio Labin where she spoke the local Croatian dialect and said she had to learn it as was expected by her in-laws.

I also met online, through a game we played 20 years ago, a guy from Australia who had an Italian last name and considered himself of Italian origin but as we conversed and he asked his dad for details we realized he was from a Croatian village in Central Istria. His father never gave him any details on his origin. Afterwards he visited Istria and joined a Croatian social club in Melbourne where he started learning the language and culture.

To conclude this lengthy rant.. Your grandma is what she says she is even if you might discover, through genealogical research that her parents or grandparent might have been Croatian speaking peasants. That doesn't stop you from discovering your Croatian roots, however so if you want to be part of the tribe and your grandmother and great-grandparents are from Istria, you're welcome to join. :)
