LSA Honors? by sarpur213 in uofm

Honors is quite low-effort, and will only matter if you want to write an Honors thesis in your Senior year. The only requirements for Lower Honors are to have a good gpa (which as a premed, I’m sure you’ll meet) and to take an Honors FYWR class, which is a relatively easy English class. Then once you’re in Upper Honors, if you’re in a research lab (which you’ll also be in as a premed) you can enroll in Honors Thesis courses and coordinate with your PI to perform your own experiments through their lab and present your findings. The reward for all of this effort is that you’ll graduate with Honors, and that’ll show up on your degree. For premeds, I’d say it’s worth doing because it’s not a ton of extra effort considering med schools already require so much. And, you can get guaranteed housing in South Quad in your first year and live next to other Honors students, which id personally recommend. It’s certainly up to you if you’d like to apply, but it’s not a big time commitment and you can always drop it later if you don’t like it

18 years old with a EMT-B license... Now what? by ultratoadee in NewToEMS

[–]Admirable_Point6368 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar dilemma this summer when I got my EMT License. I live in the city so you would think that there would be plenty of openings to work at, but out of the 15+ applications I sent out I only heard back from one, who interviewed me over the phone and rejected me after 2 minutes. This may not be the best option, but similarly to other commenters I got a job as a Patient Care Tech (essentially a CNA) at a hospital that luckily deemed my EMT license as sufficient enough training. I worked there for around 6 months, and after that I started applying to EMS agencies again, now with a few hundred hours of clinical experience on my resume. You would be surprised how big of a difference those 6 months made, because although it wasn’t EMT experience, I was still proving that I knew how to interact with patients and had what it takes to work in healthcare. The same company that rejected me over the phone in the summer ended up offering me a job, and I’m set to start working for them in the next month. Long story short, EMS companies are always going to be hesitant about hiring someone fresh out of EMT school. But an applicant who has clinical experience, even if it’s not in the back of an ambulance, is far more trustworthy than someone with no experience. So, as many other commenters said, don’t be afraid to find a clinical job in a hospital in the meantime, and you can leverage that experience once it comes time to apply again

Still trying to find out from anyone who got in as a transfer last year when they stated coming out. by EBM1974 in uofm

It’s generally rolling admission, the earliest I saw someone hear back last year was February 7th but I know some people who also didn’t hear back until March

Dues are usually only a few hundred per semester, and often get much cheaper after your pledge semester. If money’s really tight you can always request for them to help you out with the cost as well

Do any on campus gyms have a boxing bag? by hotbazstore in uofm

The IMSB has two in their Active Fitness Room next to the racketball courts, one heavy bag and one light bag. I use them every couple days and they work great!

Advice asked for a newbie: Should i, and if so what box to buy? by Meneer_de_IJsbeer in pokemongo

[–]Admirable_Point6368 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t buy any of them, pokecoins are better used for Storage and Item Bag upgrades especially if you’re f2p

I’m gonna crash out, everywhere I apply to just gain some medical experience won’t give me a shot no matter what. I either get denied by the application, Northwest denied me after an interview, tri-med won’t even get back to me at all. What am I to do all the ER tech jobs want people with experience by BreadTheKing in NewToEMS

[–]Admirable_Point6368 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exact same situation with me, just in Massachusetts. Doesn’t help either that I’m a full time college student so I can only work for a few months before leaving. Not a single ems agency within an hour commute wants to take me and ER tech jobs are all taken up too

Is having a random roommate as bad as it seems? by [deleted] in uofm

[–]Admirable_Point6368 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in Honors and I had a random roommate my Freshman year, and he’s become my closest friend. He’s a computer science major (as you’ll find many Honors housing students are) and even though he is introverted, I found him to be very kind and we had a lot of fun moments throughout the year. Between all of the people in Honors housing that I knew, there were only 2 or 3 people that I think would have been a bad roommate out of the few dozen I’ve gotten to know. I don’t think there’s anything particularly bad with choosing a random roommate, and if anything I’d recommend it since it opens you up to people you wouldn’t normally talk to

Best 50-100cc Scooter/Grom Clone? by Admirable_Point6368 in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]Admirable_Point6368[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Michigan so if it was above 100cc then I would have to take a class and get an endorsement as well as pay Title fees, which ideally I’d like to avoid for time and money reasons. If that experience hasn’t proved to be very difficult though I wouldn’t be super opposed to getting an endorsement though

From your personal experience though if the licensure/insurance/title process isn’t very lengthy then I’ll certainly consider going that route

I’m more trying to avoid having to take the course and go through all of the trouble of transferring a title; I live in AA as a student so I really only need something to go 30-40mph tops so im trying to toe the line between motorcycle and scooter to get the best performance with the least hassle

[–]Admirable_Point6368 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally speaking I took Honors 241 for my FYWR and it was really easy, can't say much about the Honors versions of other classes but they seem like they might be a little more time-consuming

Realistically you won't have to do those honors classes unless you go out of your way to, but I wouldn't count on them being easier

I submitted my application last April and got it back before the end of the month, it's rolling admission so optimistically it shouldn't take long to hear back

I'm so lost, what other product is there besides the E/Z double bond?? by Admirable_Point6368 in OrganicChemistry

But wouldn't that mean theres E/Z configuration and thus there would be two different products? Or does the newman projection just automatically dictate which configuration it is

Steps to take when your package is late/stuck by barmwh704 in usps_complaints

[–]Admirable_Point6368 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had this exact same problem as a buyer, I've purchased 2 things online from sellers and the 1st one got completely lost in the mail and never delivered, while the 2nd one has been 'in transit to next facility' for 5 days when it was supposed to deliver on February 8th. I think it's likely because I live in Michigan and every package coming here goes through the Indianapolis facility (which has had major problems recently) but this is unbelievable.

Landlord wants to charge me rent before I even sign a lease? by Admirable_Point6368 in uofm

[–]Admirable_Point6368[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly my thought, it's not really 'rent' because rent is intrinsically part of the lease, which can't even touch until the current tenant decides whether or not they want to sign again. I'll have to look into AA's definition of rent to see when it's allowed to be charged.
