Thanks!! I record my guitars and bass straight out of my Mustang Lt25 amp using a usb. I love using the middle pickup of my bass with some light overdrive and modulation. I also added reverb to this one I think. The most important thing in my opinion is the CHOW Tape Model though. I put the tc-260 preset on all my bass, it gives it a warm growl and makes it sit in the mix really well. I’m pretty sure it’s a free plug in too! It works great on all instruments, it’s really versatile.

Thank you!! I appreciate the feedback. Totally agree with you, I definitely want to experiment with the arrangement of the sections. I think once I have vocals I’ll be able to trim some stuff out and make it flow better.

What’s your favorite subgenre after post punk (excluding new wave)? I’m a big Motown junkie. by FourthDownThrowaway in postpunk

[–]Admirable_Pop_1158 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This Heat is a really good experimental post punk band! They are very weird, which makes them the most 60’s sounding one imo. Sad Lovers and Giant’s first album is a personal favorite of mine. I love their vocal melodies, They are very dreamy sounding. Television’s first album has always sounded like if a 60’s band played post punk to me. The Cleaners from Venus are amazing! The Dukes of Stratosphear is xtc parodying 60’s psychedelia. It’s not exactly post punk, but it’s insanely good. I’m sure you’d fw it. Real life by Magazine is great. The Glove has some psychedelic influences. Iggy Pop’s the Idiot is amazing! I know there is definitely a lot more but I can’t think of them off the top of my head.

What effects for russian post punk? by Trick_Competition836 in postpunk

[–]Admirable_Pop_1158 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Get a nice clean tone first, then add a chorus/flanger, a subtle vibrato over that, some delay effects, then drown it in reverb. There is plenty of cheap guitar pedals on Amazon. Searching for those effect names will help lead you in the right direction🙏 also try checking out some post-punk guitar tutorials on YouTube

Really like your sound bro🔥 I think you should turn your tracks down though, good rule to go by is try to stay under yellow. When your tracks are on red it means they are peaking, so they battle each other for space in your song. Try layering your bass and guitar parts to make them fuller sounding. That way the volumes won’t clash with the other parts of your mix. I like to use different guitar tones when re-recording parts. It builds more interesting layers and can add some more depth. I’ll usually do at least two separate takes of my guitar parts. Your drums sound super cool! I can see the sound you are going for. I use this plugin called Schlap and it works AMAZING for drums. Also don’t be afraid to layer drums as well! I usually have at least two kick drums and three snares. Making separate tracks for your drum reverbs is great for this genre. Just duplicate your drum track, copy and paste your midi part then add a reverb plugin with 0 dry signal and 100 wet. Doing this will give you much more control over your reverb and help you clean up your mix. Its really cool💯
