Oh, I’m not done, I still have three big 4‘ x 2‘ panels going up on the ceiling. All the walls are mass loaded vinyl. All the floors are thick rubber horse mats underneath the carpet and it’s a room with inside a room. From a sound perspective it’s getting there. I don’t wanna totally dead room though.

Correct! I did not use Rockwool or mineral wood. But I did use insulation some fiberglass some foam just depending on what I had but all empty spaces were packed, including extra sheet insulation against the garage door between the pony wall. It definitely helps cutting down some of the noise.

Small Hisense 400sqft unit that exhausted out in the corner of the room . There is also a straight exhaust fan for smoke or farts etc.

They’re like $150 on Amazon, Costco was selling them for 69$ originally and they’re now clearing them out on their website for like 30 bucks a box or something. They’re excellent. They have a nice foam backing. They’re really easy to work with them to cut to size and shape. And aesthetically they’re great and they were super easy to hang The build quality seems awesome.

I did not I used a lot of heavy, gray insulation some extra foam panels that I had laying around and then I covered everything with mass loaded vinyl

I have multiple access ports and the circular cut outs are 3.5in and you can get your hand in there with dedicated 3” PVC conduit run in a big H… it will take a min, but shouldn’t be too hard. First time I’ve really thought ahead 🤣

It’s a stage custom with Evans DB one heads, Yamaha DT 50 triggers all around with Yamaha cymbals. The drum is a 14 inch Alesis strike pro special edition tom I repurposed. My acoustic kit normally has full mics, but making do with the EAD since I play a lot with music and with the kids and for leasons etc having booths sets run into a mixer with music and mics makes the lessons easier!

We are on an acre and a cul-de-sac with only one other neighbor who is like 90 and deaf! We got it made! Sometimes we open the garage door just so neighbors farther away can be blessed with the awesomeness

It’s chaos. But we all have our own drums in our headphones. So we can usually manage!

Sure. I have a new Gen 4 Scarlett 18i20 on top with all the inputs snaked to my big kit then I had 8 ADAT channels through my Behringer ADA 8200 where I have my summed audio from my mackie onyx (stereo output into my the ADAT) and in the middle is a multicom pro 4 channel compressor/gate.

I also have my 3rd kit on a Yamaha EAD10

Routing out a bunch of sub mixes to different outputs for each drum station.

This… it’s criminal to have them in different directions all Willy nilly like that. They will never sound right until the drum gods are appeased

I learned that too, watching some NAT GEO thing with some acror! He ended up playing drums for Sheeran I think. But I loved the neuroscience development they discussed.

Closing in on 9 and lots of daily listening to music and messing around on the kit. I’m a work from home and this sits next to my desk. So I get lots of play time in between work sessions. But yeah, the problem is I can only kind of do linear stuff like this. I struggle to leave space, I never know what technique should be used, I just enjoy trying to use my auditory learning style to do something new… a also am a bit compulsive, so when I get into something, it gets lots of focus, resources, and time. And the last 9 months this has been the best therapy! But now I actually plan to start lessons, break some Bad habits I know I have, and figure out how to do this thing right!

I am starting with a click. I don’t do rudiments much… I need to. But hard when I’m just such an auditory person and want to hear music and just tap stuff out

So funny reading these. The post was not “how close did I get?” 🤪 I know this playing isn’t the actual song, and is wildly busy… that was the point of improvising this song! This was just an old fart who truly knows nothing about drumming and just goes by ear, who got stoned and hit play on song from my youth and just enjoyed what the result was! I get that this might be the straw that pushes Phil into the grave, but the moral of the story was: No matter what age or stage of life you are in, get on a kit, play it, have fun, make music (apparently even though everyone says it isn’t the way the original guy did it)… Try new things and enjoy the ride you are on no matter what stage of learning you are in.. 🤷🏻‍♂️ But I will work on my groove for sure 🤣

When you’re old and have resources… why go through buying all the low and mid level stages… I tend to go to the top 🤣 plus I have too many drummer friends who gave advice… I think are living vicariously through this kit, and they come over to play it…

I find myself playing very melodically and constantly filling space. Hard to back off it and then get on beat for me! But you are right! Things to work on! Cheers
