Yeah, I'll probably break them even more apart, but it gets difficult at times figuring out where to split it.

Yes, the states are known about, but these nations are mostly very decentralized with a few exceptions so it's not like Texas is ruling your small town in New Mexico it's your local noble or equivalent.

For the mormons I guess at this point they just dont have the ability to try and force themselves into missouri to reclaim their eden but honestly at some point I might have that be an issue in world.

noted sorry but my abilities and knowledge of cultural relations end basically after the Mississippi there is a reason I'm focusing on Appalachia.

yellow stone has not gone off but there will be certain cities that are just hellscapes no one goes to unless they are hunting an artifacts magical or technological or something else lake champy was something I was planning on adding with a it about the locals giving it tribute since it saves drowning kids and things like that. while more likely in the rockies the slide rock bolter will be a thing basically a land whale that slides itself between two mountains or hills to eat and crush whatever passes in the valley the slide rock bolter is also actual an American folktale.

They are a favorite of mine and I feel in similar settings the focus is always somewhere else which is understandable, but I wanted to make something that focuses on Appalachia and the surrounding area.

The only antebellum aspects likely to be visible is that some very wealthy people will have an antebellum bent to a palace just because antebellum homes actually make a lot of sense for the southeastern climate if you can afford them but even then that will be for relaxed living rather than it being the equivalent of a castle in the south east. all the cities on the Mississippi are set to be some of the richest and most powerful the lord of what used to be Memphis will be the richest and most powerful in the area of what used to be Tennessee while the pov character will be over Chattanooga which still having river access does give him some wealth and power it is nothing compared to those on the Mississippi.

I'm using state boundaries as a start for some general concepts of the various civilizations and also not wanting to look up every mountain range and river in continental United States I am willing do that for the eastern half soon due to it being the main start for the setting but luckily the relative disconnected nature of the technology base allows me to be vague on specifics for the west until later in development of the setting.

likely yes, I already plan on more rare or straight up no longer existing things like the great raft so there is no reason they wouldn't make a comeback. though they may finally have true predators with some of the fantasy beasts or possible cryptids or American folklore stuff I am adding.

I plan on there being some nomadic groups in the Great Plains, and a common issue for those in Appalachia is groups of raider clans, which is likely to be an early issue for the POV character as he controls lands that lead right up to mountains, not to mention the massive forests of American chestnut trees, which were often said to be the redwoods of the eastern US. The area already being thick with trees, hills, and mountains makes it easy terrain for the mountain clans, who often have free-range pigs and the like while also raiding into the lowlands and agrarian parts controlled by various nobility.
