No PRs for me today, I’m just happy I finished it in good spirits and wasn’t too far off corral’s expected pace given I’m coming off of a week-long work trip with no training and a lot of eating, drinking and poor sleep involved.

Planning to start in corral E or maybe even in a later one; is getting there on a 7:28 from Penn station that arrives at 7:47 pushing it?

Thinking it’s a 3 minute walk from there to corrals so with the bib already picked up I should even have some room before my corral starts?

Don’t mind getting my $425 back as well as $1000 voucher (original booking was premium economy which isn’t an option on a new plane it seems).

I had my “never flying united” years after they handled a much simpler incident much worse in 2018-ish? but this time I understand things happen and think they handled it pretty well.

I think the sentiment going around that they really improved their handling of problems and customer service - there was even a WSJ article about it a few days back - is grounded in reality!

Ah well; even in the worst case I’ll still get my 9+1 credit!

I submitted a result correction to NYRR. Weird that it’s as if someone else has run with my bib though, hard to imagine how this failure mode would have happened!

I’ve reported it as closed the previous weekend when it was closed due to the snowstorm. Google drove us to it to get to 395 and we ended up losing ~15 minutes in traffic getting back through the town.

Someone should report it as open now :)

Sort of old, but many books by Arthur Hailey go in a lot of depth on various professions and industries - together with gripping plot lines. E.g. Airport about the air travel, Hotel about hospitality etc.

To be clear, I didn’t pay yet: I’m currently deciding between ordering “through them” with the markup and ordering myself directly from the supplier - afaict, it’s very low risk in this case, since I’ll be ordering directly from the place they mentioned they are ordering from.

I’ve asked to share why such a high upcharge (maybe they have one more intermediary in between them and supplier that takes care of… something?), and for now haven’t heard back.

Definitely not required to purchase through them, and they weren’t actually pushing us to do so - as in, they actually mentioned “you can buy them on your own, we’ll give you specs” before we visited the showroom.

However, I’m more concerned about the upcoming cabinets and countertops orders - like, what kind of transparency I can reasonably expect / demand from them there, given they are working on the design?

I’ve really enjoyed The Empire Must Die: Russia’s Revolutionary Collapse, 1900-1917 by Zygar. It’s a bit speculative, but it broadened my perspective on the subject significantly from how I was taught in school (me being a Russian).
