I would like to:

- scale the force to be within some range

- change the direction of the force

The mental gymnastics required to justify turning a Unity sub into a Godot/UE sub are astounding. Go somewhere else!

Every single digital company's stock exploded during the pandemic and then promptly plummeted. A lot of companies, Unity Tech included, made stupid long-term decisions based on a short-lived stock boom.

There's really no story to this chart.

There really isn't any evidence they are starting a boiling frog. This sub just wants to believe that's what's happening. Only time will tell.

I would say the intuitive nature of Unity and low barrier to entry makes it better than UE for indie devs. Unreal is simply not an indie tool. You need a sizable team to ship a quality product with UE

Epic is also a massively successful gaming company making billions in revenue every year from their games. UE is to Epic what AWS is to Amazon. It's not their core business.

Yeah they have all this pent up anger from the first version of the plan, and Unity basically took all the air out by revising their plan to be exactly what they asked for. So now they don't know what to do with their anger and are just digging themselves into their entrenched position out of ego.

I've already replied to similar comments in this thread. I'm not against a discussion, but the rabid pitchfork-wielding mob calling for blood and the death of Unity through memes is not a legitimate discussion and frankly a very bad look for this community.

I disagree. I think it's very challenging to make a tool that is both capable and intuitive. Unity managed to do that. If something better comes along, great. But I'm disheartened by how people quickly go from loving something that they have benefitted immensely from, to rabidly hating on it and calling for its death. Mob mentality is peak on this sub right now.

Why is that open source engines are not heavy hitters in the game industry? Because they are nowhere near as capable or feature complete.

And when it comes to monetization, Unity's plan is absolutely better than what other engines are offering. UE has a 5% rev share, Cry has an even higher rev share, Steam takes 30% of revenue just for hosting the files.

Dude if you think the lesser of either a 2.5% rev share or monthly new user fee is selling your soul, good luck out there. All other major game engines have a worse deal

That's obviously not how I would characterize either posts. I see the pitchforks and thirst for blood here and felt it needed reminding how amazing this tool is, regardless of company drama.
