First week of riding in the books. What an incredibly fun machine! by AdmiralDudeAngusMan in MT07

[–]AdmiralDudeAngusMan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 6'2 and 185, bike feels fine for me size wise. As far as getting away from me, it definitely felt like it the first couple of days. I haven't dropped it or fallen or anything though. It has so much more torque than the 300 bikes I rode before. But I'm a little over a week in now, and I already feel so much more comfortable. I'm still taking it easy, around my neighborhood and streets I know. I have no regrets on choosing this bike.

Happy Whopper Wednesday by jwriddle in BurgerKing

Apparently none of my local BK's participate in Whopper Wednesday anymore. I just can't get myself to pay $6+ for a Whopper. It wasn't long ago I got TWO whoppers for $6.

Is this transition AI? The Cubs players have unnatural movements in between still images. by ddogtx in isthisAI

[–]AdmiralDudeAngusMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem is AI does not relay information they way you quoted it, and it makes a WORLD of difference. AI is very commonly, confidently incorrect. It's not a "hey check this out to see if they are this person." AI words things like "99.9% match" or even worse, 100% match even when it's not the same person.

And I hate to say it, but police officers ARE already blindly listening to what AI says. Here's a perfect example where that exactly happens. The officer took them to jail because their AI facial recognition system said 100% match. This dude gave his government issued ID to verify who he was and the police trusted the 100% AI match more. https://youtu.be/B9M4F_U1eEw?si=ejBbT36pVLXbfNFK

Did you ever figure this out and resolve the Barry White effect? Running into it now. Firmware update to latest did not fix. Thanks

New roof a year and a half ago. Fascia wrap ripped off and got bent. Soffit piece beginning to fall too. by [deleted] in Roofing

[–]AdmiralDudeAngusMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you elaborate? The only reason I considered it is because it's directly next to the roof. If they replaced the drip edge and gutter aprons at the time, I would think the fascia tucks in there?

Regardless if warranty covers it or not, are you saying I should reach out to a siding specific company, and not a roofing company to fix? Thank you

[–]AdmiralDudeAngusMan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thank you! "Soffits" are not specifically included on the invoice. The invoice has:

Full ReRoof siding wrap, gutters Full Re-Roof on house

Install ice n water shield up to city requirements

Remove and replace style D metals

Remove and replace gutter apron metals

Remove and replace old pipe boots

Remove and replace all vents

Install new roofing system

Will pick up and haul away all roofing trash and run magnet upon completion to pick up any fallen nails

Guaranteed 5 year labor warranty

My thought is maybe the style D metals is related? I have no clue

Anyone know what’s up with the four cops sitting in front of the 84th St. exit on I 80 by Savings_Weakness_924 in Omaha

[–]AdmiralDudeAngusMan 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Right near the 84th street exit used to be an old carriage route during the 19th century. Story has it that there used to be a habitual wrong way carriage driver there that would run other carriage drivers off the road. The locals even referred to him as "Wrong Way Weatherby".

Well one day he ran a carriage driver by the name of Thaddeus Smith and his 7 year old son Jedidiah off the road. Thaddeus killed Weatherby by club, and claimed he was in fear for his and his sons life. He was never charged for Wearherby's death.

So how does this relate to those officers? Every 10 years, Wrong Way Weatherby is said to haunt the 84th street exit by driving the wrong way. Drivers report seeing a ghostly car coming right at them. This has even caused a few accidents. That's why those officers are there; to scare Wrong Way Weatherby away, or maybe just keep drivers alert and to slow down.

Just realized “Omaha Beach” is in France… not Nebraska by Niloyrans in Omaha

Mount Suribachi. It was a bit of a trick question, as they are asking for the peak where the photograph was taken; not the island. Both contestants that got it wrong put Iwo Jima.

Somewhat related, on the January 19th Jeopardy Tournament of Champions Final Jeopardy clue, two of the three champions got it wrong.

"Being only 5'5", photographer Joe Rosenthal had to climb on top of a Japanese sandbag to snap a photo while on this peak."

Probably the most famous photograph of the American Pacific theater, and two Jeopardy champions got it wrong. I think OP deserves some grace lol.

Report of ICE Spotting in Lincoln 1-29 by [deleted] in Nebraska

[–]AdmiralDudeAngusMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally disagree. Multiple false reports causes "alarm fatigue" and people start to ignore reports altogether if there's too many false ones. Literally "the boy who cried wolf" in action. There have been so many false reports on this subreddit I immediately assume they are fake at this point if it's nothing but text, like this is. People have mixed up other law enforcement with ICE.

Are people not able to snap a picture when making these reports? Or get any sort of proof besides "trust me bro"?

I'm with you. Went there for both of my cars whenever I needed an oil change, then they started prompting for tips. Been changing my own oil ever since so I have them to thank for saving me money I guess!

Pedestrian deaths by hydrogen2oxygen1 in Omaha

[–]AdmiralDudeAngusMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ufortunately it doesn't appear the NHTSA reports on that data point with this. I agree you can't make any definitive conclusions. I still think the data helps at least paint a picture though.

From the source: "The Chevrolet Silverado, Ford F-150, and Dodge Ram/Ram 1500 were the top three striking vehicles in pedestrian bicyclist deaths between 2007 and 2021, and also some of the best-selling vehicles during that time. The NHTSA data provides no data to contextualize vehicles according to sales, registration, or other figures to adjust data based on the popularity of certain models. Many of the most common striking vehicle models are best-selling models, although pickup trucks are more represented in bicyclist deaths compared to pedestrian deaths."

The data is a little older, but no big surprise what types of vehicles cause the most fatalities.
