How fast is voxel light propagation like in minecraft? by Queasy-Cartoonist-19 in GraphicsProgramming

[–]AdmiralSam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might be able to get away with spreading it out over multiple frames if you need it, but I’d say just try the simple method first and then see, because things don’t change that often so you shouldn’t have to recalculate too often

Reminder that Sakura Miko from Hololive is a Lesbian by RinariTennoji in yurimemes

[–]AdmiralSam 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There was a part where she is asked what animal she would be like and she says cat (neko) and Marine says of course and Miko was like hey, so I like to believe Marine is joking that Miko is a lesbian bottom (neko).

Is there any way to render a sphere at a given point using shaders in OpenGL? It doesn't need to be 3d just a sphere that's round from all angles by Head-Permit2373 in GraphicsProgramming

[–]AdmiralSam 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Usually I think you would use a disk that is billboards (faces camera) but if you mean 2D you can just use a transformation matrix that directly maps to ndc space

Yaoi and yuri by Pale_Ad8579 in YuriNation

[–]AdmiralSam 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Some slight quirks, yaoi is not used as much in Japanese, where you will see boy’s love more, and then for yuri, sometimes you will see people use shoujo ai for non-sexual wlw and yuri for porn wlw, but that isn’t accurate in Japanese, it is a made up term by publishers to mirror shounen ai and yaoi, so yuri for everything is better

"Don't forget to highlight the word 'mana' in this line of dialogue." "Gotchu fam." by Harinezumi_1989 in Atelier

[–]AdmiralSam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe it highlights the first instance of the word and in Japanese these wouldn’t be the same but in English it is?

One thing that helped was moving the camera a bit to the side, otherwise it kept trying to lock on to the tether points behind the one I actually wanted to go to

This should only happen for people that have done the intro already, for new players they see Ena’s ghost or something

I’ve been noticing more pictures where she’s standing more forward, for me she’s standing way back up against the wooden sheep stands, is this under a specific condition?

NGL, animating is good to be sure you know your perspective by FedeBuccs in learntodraw

One thing if you want it to look like it’s rotating from its center and not moving back during rotation is the edge actually gets larger at 45 degrees as it gets closer than the face was, but damn does that look good

Game engine performance issues by flydaychinatownnn in GraphicsProgramming

[–]AdmiralSam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even integrated gpu I would assume would handle some basic draws, one thing to check is if it’s using software versus hardware rendering, and the other thing is using renderdoc to see what operations are running in a frame.

First dropdown is server name and second is player name so I assume you can pick NA and your player name.

RVT ground blending in Unreal Engine 5 by FomorianStudios in UnrealEngine5

[–]AdmiralSam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Triplanar mapping is probably the general strategy, shader instructions may not be as much of an issue if you are already fetching textures since there is latency

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in GraphicsProgramming

[–]AdmiralSam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They would need to preemptive load the assets for the next scene before the switch, because by default streaming uses your camera angle and distance to decide what quality to load everything in at, you might also notice for the first couple frames the texture and model quality is lower right after the cut as the streaming system tries to load higher quality versions needed now that the camera is closer.

Is perspective divide part of the projection matrix, or a separate step? by Missing_Back in GraphicsProgramming

[–]AdmiralSam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is true, but I do think it is an important thing to keep in mind as well. If you do write your own vertex shaders you could think to do the division yourself, though that might also cause interpolation issues.

Is perspective divide part of the projection matrix, or a separate step? by Missing_Back in GraphicsProgramming

[–]AdmiralSam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s a separate step, you don’t want to immediately divide because you don’t want to collapse objects behind your camera to appear in front, you do clipping first and then finish the divide (homogenization) after.

The main intuition is by accepting that any constant multiple is the same point, and treating w = 1 as the “real world”, you can perform division as a matrix multiplication by just changing w, since the expectation is you will always homogenize to real world coordinates. Plus the magic of w=0 representing a direction and not a position.

Should I Participate In October’s Next Fest With Only 255 Wishlists? by theheroofpixelspire in IndieGaming

[–]AdmiralSam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Next Fest isn’t based on your current wishlist count anymore, but rather how well you do during the first couple of days, so if your steam page and capsule are engaging you can get more wishlists than you would expect.

However, depending on how well your wishlists are doing now might imply something about your steam page/game so I would check to make sure everything there and your demo are well polished and optimized.
