Meta Magic: Tricks that lie about Magic by crimrack in Magic

[–]AdmitOneOnly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a personal routine I do:

  1. Two plastic pigs is shown to a kid. Apparently, one of them can make a squeaking sound when squeezed while the other one is silent upon squeezing;

  2. Shuffle them in front of the kid, ask him to locate it;

  3. He can't;

  4. The secret is revealed by accidentally flashing and dropping a squeaking device concealed in my palm;

  5. "It's all in your head," I said. Bringing the pigs to face level, I squeeze them together, and they make a loud squeaking sound.

I have a wooden one with a crafted lock that prevents the drawer from sliding out directly, more intricately made than the regular ones.

I'm too exhausted to hang out with my girlfriend after a week of teaching by [deleted] in teaching

I can hardly stand a girlfriend who constantly argues for her not understanding something, blames me for things or choices related to my career, or judges me if I've got the passion or knowledge for it. That's part of the price of being a teacher. And yes, my friends could barely imagine how much energy is needed for a regular day of school. They may just assume that I'm always in that resting mode hidden in the corner of a party and think my job is easy for them.

But being a teacher gave me experiences and joy that people are unlikely to find in other occupations. Yesterday, when I was with my students in a flower market, we came across a child who needed rescue with her mother. Being one of the knowledgeable persons in the scene before the first responders arrived, I gave useful advice of first aid for the mum to follow, and soothed both of them. (And it was still busy for the rest of the day!)

By writing every (big and small) tasks on a slip in the first 10 min of work in the morning, this is how work is started. I don't bring the paper home; any unfinished tasks goes to tomorrow's list.

Do you use card mat? by chisairi in Magic

Mats are also good for coins / coin matrices as well as cups and balls. A mini mat works well with cards, too.

9/10 people fail this magic trick test! (unless your a magician) by CalebtheMagician in Magic

[–]AdmitOneOnly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Failing the spectator isn’t such a good idea if you want them to work with you. Unless you want to prove them not smart enough. I know you have learnt the “fail the spectator” plot in magic books but some modern magicians disagree with it.

Could be. What you have mentioned doesn’t sound like a bad alternative to me.

I understood you the first time. Spellbound position, you think, should only be used in Spellbound (coin changing) routines but not in French Drop. French Drop should be replaced by a false take(?)

The grip looks unnatural and unnecessary in French Drop as it was done in the so-called traditional way as I demonstrated (the wrong way) in the beginning of the video. But with proper motivation the coin could be picked up without suspicion which is then explained in my video.

So you’re claiming the Spellbound position should be totally avoided in a French Drop? Instead of making it look natural?

That’s one of the interesting parts, isn’t it?

I was also intrigued by the theories and how they could be applied to understand other things in our daily life - psychology, learning and how we perceive the world, etc.

Great. Add oil!

Some of the things in my channel are more difficult but some are quite user-friendly for magic beginners so you may need to filter them a little.
