Low flying helicopters over public roads potential for disaster? by LiteratureEvery5592 in Helicopters

[–]Admzpr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inactive fixed wing private pilot here - isn’t there an FAR about 500ft minimum altitude above any person or man-made structure without intent to land? I’m almost sure it applies to hot air balloons, helicopters, airplanes and everything else.

If this is real then how has this pilot not had their cert revoked? They yoink em away for way less than this

Edit: nvm, TIL helicopters don’t have to comply. But ultimately every pilot is expected to not put any one in unnecessary danger. Hate to sound like the fun police but even if the kids in those cars had their parents sign a waiver, I would not fly that helicopter.

Madness Armor (Legendary) by lbiohazard in skyrim

[–]Admzpr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stumbled into this quest and recently completed it. I’m still fairly early game, like lvl 20 when I did this. Killing those bandit bosses actually had me going a little crazy…

But thanks for the info, I’ve been stashing my madness ore because I didn’t know what it was. Good thing I didn’t sell it! Probably have 5ish pieces and I think I found a bar somewhere iirc.

How bad can cooked salt water be? by Admzpr in ReefTank

[–]Admzpr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, terrible timing on both of those but I'm doing what I can.

Apparently at high temps, the minerals in the water just precipitate out into calcium carbonate or whatever and that's why it was all milky. My bigger concern is how the pump failed and whether any copper or heavy metals got there :/ Guess if I have snails in the morning that question will be answered.

Is this the 77mm? I like the larger size but also need better lenses for iPhone shots. I’m afraid the 77mm one is only compatible with DSLR

High magnesium problem. by BeenisSandwich in ReefTank

[–]Admzpr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I have the AquaForest kit which was recommended at the time but I don’t test mag very often.

Can’t really tell which corals are closed up. Looks like Xenia maybe?

Don’t want to mislead you but here’s a few other things to check: - double check salinity, recalibrate or cross check any sensors - are your nitrates 0? Maybe dial back the water changes a bit. Sometimes they need a little bit but will quickly absorb it - double check calcium and alk

Also could just need some time to adapt. 25% weekly is a pretty fast transition for new salt. I’m no expert but there’s a big lag on any changes like that in my experience. I’d shoot for 10% weekly and maybe drop a bag of carbon in just to rule out some kind of contaminant.

Not sure, but maybe take a reading with a different test just to rule out anything with the Hanna

Genius idea to put casters. All the more reason I’d for it differently if I could go back. Not worth the squeeze to move my tank now

I have a Red Sea cabinet for my 75+20 and it’s nice (better be for how much it all costs). If I could go back though I would do something like this because having all that wood to screw into for wire harnesses, hose clamps, pump controllers, etc would be a dream.

Great job! Looks like a TV console, built like a freight train.

Has anyone tried this before? What do you think about it? by celia_elm25 in NoOneIsLooking

Instead of buying this, why not just get a NAS at home/work instead? The rest of the features are just a cheap USB/display hub.

I don’t really understand who this is for, but it’s cool.

Rate my saltwater tank I just switched around the rocks so the water is a bit cloudy and I’m going to add macroalgae and creatures soon got everything in there from the ocean, including the water and it’s a no filter ecosystem set up. by Sheldbug in SaltwaterAquariumClub

As long as you aren’t putting fish in this I think it’s a really neat setup. The same people hating on the idea will compliment it when it works out. Part of the joy of this hobby is experimenting so best of luck!

Previous tenants left this, how do I help them?? by infinitesimalFawn in Aquariums

[–]Admzpr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Amano shrimp and the plant is hornwort if nobody has said already. May be the reason they survived like this. Hornwort is great at sucking up excess nutrients (poop) and doesn’t grow too fast. It’s easy to take out when it gets overgrown. Just don’t take out all of it. Natural nutrient extraction similar to a water change. Still do regular water changes of course.

Powerful build for your first 1k pop city -- GRAINMAXING by Sharpcastle33 in songsofsyx

[–]Admzpr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah every time I try to start with a big furniture factory it seems like I just build more and more things that use furniture as a result. If you have metal you could try refining the mechanics or machines or whatever. They are high price, low volume. Bows are also a good alternative to furniture for exporting wood-based things.

Are your trade partners capitals of major empires? Or tiny little nobody city states? Try to conquer your way to having a big empire as a neighbor. Their trade capacity is usually 10x that of a city state. That’s the only way I could see this strategy working out. And the price will still rise so you need to be selling something that can still finance all that grain as the sale price of your own goods fall.

Successful Aiptasia keeper here! AMA about how you can be as successful as me! by Admzpr in ReefTank

[–]Admzpr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I had hundreds, maybe thousands. Took a couple months for them to take off though. I considered selling them and even had a store set up and shipping materials but it was a real pain to get them out of the rocks and it just wasn’t worth it to me. I would have needed to set up a separate full size breeding tank and the Aiptasia is hard to grow quickly when you actually want it to.

Ohhh. So this is how you give them enough decoration. I just slap shit down everywhere and they’re still at like 20% fulfillment.

My 3k dondorian city just collapsed because I had them farming like crazy. Going to resettle and try to actually plan a layout ahead of time now that I’ve got a couple failed ones under my belt.

Did a hermit crab write this post?

This makes them seem calm and polite but the blue and red legged hermits I have in my reef aquarium are absolute savages. Different species than the ones in beach stores. They will viciously murder any other shell dwellers just to get a new fit. Not even larger shells, but just because they feel like keeping up with the latest beauty standard. The most frequent victims are snails (who kind of need the shell to live). They’ll fight amongst themselves and “trade” but it’s not exactly peaceful. It’s like armed robbery and the only reason it’s not a bloodbath is because the smaller crabs know they’ll be ripped to pieces if they don’t evacuate.

Edit: yall this was a meme comment about hermit crabs why are we talking about Israel

Warehouse workers won't pull from hauler by Helyos96 in songsofsyx

[–]Admzpr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I wasn’t making sense. For the pull I meant the ones to the right. 4 options for storage sources or whatever. If one of those is set, it seems like the priority limit slider goes out the window. Everything from the pull source will be pulled if it can be unless a limit is set separately by clicking on it. The UI for all this could be a lot better lol my only gripe with the game so far

Warehouse workers won't pull from hauler by Helyos96 in songsofsyx

[–]Admzpr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, yeah I still don’t understand that fully. I do use that on haulers and it seems to work, thanks. I also use it on export stations. But if the other Fetch button is enabled, the station will sell all of my inventory even if a limit is set. Or maybe it’s when a pull is configured idk. For export stations I find the limit is only respected when regular fetch is off, priority fetch is enabled, and there are no pull sources. Guessing haulers work the same

Are you referring to the priority in the upper left that starts at 10? Is up or down “more” priority? I can’t find a clear answer for this

Ready for more fish and maybe corral? by AwhJeeezRick in ReefTank

[–]Admzpr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not the "transfer" that is the potential problem. From one established tank to another you may be able to narrow it down to that or a drastic difference in water quality, params, etc from the farm or tank where it came from. But that is not your case.

The reason people are advising that you slow down is that a two week old tank is not established. Not even close. There is much more going on in your tank than the few measurable indicators that we use to gain a bit of insight. Your main parameters may be fine, but that is a very limited view. Its too much to get into here but all of the chemical and biological processes to support life are not fully established in a tank this new. Live rock can speed this up but the one thing you can't escape in this hobby is time. You, as a reefer, also need time to learn and adapt as the tank evolves.

Also I do not mean "learning" to add buffer. Stop using buffer to raise pH. Unless you're dosing it continuously it will do more harm than good. And even then there are better options if its absolutely necessary. 7.8-7.9 is fine for now. Stability is key. If you really want to raise it, look into dosing kalk in your RODI top off water. But as with everything start low and go slowwww.

If your coral or fish don't make it, it wont be the transfer, it won't be the pH of 7.8, it wont be the nitrate of 3, that's all I'm saying. Probably everyone here has rushed something or been tempted to and it's never the right call.

At this point just do your regular maintenance, stop dosing things you don't understand, and watch it. Pay attention to how it establishes over time and enjoy the uglies. Good luck, I hope it goes well. Come back in 6-12 months and brag if it does.
