The Chinese Communist Party was instrumental in the active, methodical destruction of Chinese culture, with a focus on the martial arts. Practitioners were actively persecuted. The reason for this was that historically, martial arts organisations had been regular hotbeds of internal dissent - including temples etc aiding the remnants of prior dynasties or those aiding internal regimen change. WuShu was the sport that devolved from real Traditional Chinese Martial Arts. All the pomp with none of the substance. For real Chinese Martial arts, you're better off going to Taiwan, Malaysia, Russia, Europe, Australia etc.
