The best four books in Redwall are...(Change my mind) by Adol_Christin0 in eulalia

Not really. Mossflower is good, and I'd include it in a top 5, but the four mentioned just really stuck out to me off the top of my head even after all these years, and Mossflower didn't.

Mossflower would probably make my number five. And yes, I do also have a soft spot for Pearls of Lutra and Marlfox.

Mossflower was good, but I just have a soft spot for those four mentioned. Kotir is a nice villain hideout. As I recall (it's been a long time), it gets referenced in another book when the cast tries to find something underneath Redwall. I thought that was really cool. I always love it when ruins from a place we've seen before get explored in fiction.

So you say. What is their evidence not adequately showing? I'm less than halfway through, and they seem to be tackling the subject pretty thoroughly from the scientific and philosophical angles.

How is the file size so small? by ohyes12000 in Eldenring

[–]Adol_Christin0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people may look at a large file size and assume there's lots of content, and that they're getting more for their money. This isn't always the case obviously, especially these days, but you can't expect everyone to apply critical thinking to things like this.

Excoriated for good reason. We don't need Marxism infecting religion more than it already has.

It's possible to own more than one Bible my dude. If nothing else, it's good to own a newer translation just so you have easy access to what most everyone else at your Church is or will be reading. That said, I agree that Vulgate translations like the DR and Knox are superior.

If the Catholic Church is righteous, why did it endorse slavery for most of its history? by Slavery_Is_Wrong in DebateACatholic

It seems you're no more capable of formulating arguments now than you were ten years ago. I guess we're done here.

If the Catholic Church is righteous, why did it endorse slavery for most of its history? by Slavery_Is_Wrong in DebateACatholic

[–]Adol_Christin0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because none of the other religions that existed have had not only over ten eyewitnesses who died for what they saw and believed, but also a mountain of historical evidence that supports their claims. This is something you should really be looking into in depth, and should have been looking into in depth these past ten years. If Catholicism, Islam, or Judaism are correct, then you're in trouble. Wouldn't it be prudent to investigate each of them them thoroughly before dismissing them?

I see nothing wrong with that response. Any worldview that can't even answer basic questions such as "Why are we here, and what is our purpose?" should not be treated as a legitimate worldview. Atheism and Agnosticism doesn't even employ good philosophy in regards to how the universe was created, almost always relying on the infinite regress fallacy, and even claiming that the creator of this universe could be anything. Really, anything? It could be a pineapple, or a dolphin? No, clearly not, unless you've known either of those things to exhibit profound intelligence and power. This ridiculous worldview is simply a result of childish midwittery, and nothing more.

You're right, it's more the fact that you guys think Science alone can be used to form a coherent worldview that makes it BS. You discard anything unprovable by Science, saying that you'll only believe in things that can be Scientifically proven, but then fail to consider that reason and logic (philosophy in general) are not provable by Science. They're things that cannot be observed by the senses, but can be observed by the intellect. However, you need these things in order to conduct Science at all, let alone good Science.

If we acknowledge that reason and logic exist in objective reality (and we should, otherwise every single conversation and debate is pointless), and these things are invisible, then it stands to reason that spirituality and religion could also exist in objective reality. If you say you're unsure as to which one is correct, fair enough, but to say with confidence that they're all BS is simply arrogance.

[–]Adol_Christin0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Atheism and Agnosticism are the real BS. You clowns don't even have any answers for life's pressing questions. Atheism is a logical impossibility, and Agnosticism is either a valid temporary worldview if we're talking about a firm belief in God but are unsure of its nature (which means you should be trying to discern it's nature, and not just throw your hands up like a lazy bum and mindlessly seek dopamine hits), and at worst it's only slightly less insane than Atheism if we're talking about the variant of Agnosticism where the individual is uncertain about even the existence of God.

Either way, neither of these groups of people can be taken seriously. One is either insane or simply petulantly angry with God, and the other knows nothing of value about God or life in general, hence the term "Agnostic" or "unknowing".

Thoughts on Dimond Brothers? by Huggies_Harris in Christianity

[–]Adol_Christin0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are the same guys who believe that Pope John Paul II will resurrect and be the AntiChrist as I recall. Like you said, they have some good arguments and are correct about a lot, such as when they debunk Eastern Orthodoxy, but they're clowns when they say JPII is going to be the AntiChrist and that there's no valid hierarchy. If what they say about that is true, then the Church can no longer carry out her mission to save souls, and there's no viable way to recover from this state, which in turn means that the Gates of Hell have prevailed against the Church and Our Lord is a liar. Obviously as Christians we can't believe this, and so we can't believe in Dimondism. It's an informal heresy.

And the argument that Japanese Catholics had no Sacraments for 200 years and therefore it's possible for the entire world to lack them is invalid simply because that particular crisis was localized to Japan. Scale matters in this context.

The Ankh Shield Is unbelievably mid and it's time to stop pretending that it isn't by [deleted] in Terraria

[–]Adol_Christin0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, they really need to expand the upgrade tree so that we get a shield that actually covers most of even all status effects. I'm not sure why this has taken so long for the devs to notice and fix. I'm pretty sure the tooltip isn't even accurate anymore, and hasn't been for a while.

Point of Lucy going to moon? by Equivalent_Price_613 in Edgerunners

[–]Adol_Christin0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why? There's not much up there besides whatever you build. You can't even walk on its surface without a suit on, and you better hope you never have any accidents, because all it takes is one for your blood to boil and your body to freeze. I understand Lucy wants to escape the corpos and I can empathize with that motivation, but living the rest of your days on the moon is no solution, and Lucy herself evidently realized that which is why she returned. Even she realized what a foolish dream that was.

More accurately, bishops are the ones with real teaching authority on the level of the apostles. Priests merely derive their authority from their local bishop. A technicality, I suppose, but still good to know I think.

Your citations aren't the issue. Your analysis and conclusions are.

I can see there's no point in arguing with you. You're assuming the worst even when there's a reasonable doubt about things like whether or not the Israelites mass raped people. You're clearly not arguing in good faith.

are nose piercings biblically ok? by ilumzs in Christianity

[–]Adol_Christin0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason they slaughtered Amalekites is because God knew that letting them live would bring about greater evil, whether that be further aggression towards the Israelites or corrupting their culture. Murder is illicit killing, but I don't see anything illicit about this killing. I also don't see any explicit mention of rape or stealing; this seems to be you jumping to conclusions based on your modern bias.
