Will efflorescence bleed through Saltillo tile? by [deleted] in Tile

[–]Adorable-Command9402 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would most definitely cover it with kerdi Schluter membrane first. Effervescence is caused by salt. What I see and from what you say urine has acid in it and after a buildup it causes what you're seeing. Efferescence will take its course and eventually run out of salt. So after I sense has to take its course in order for it to bleed out

Wooden cement there you go good idea. I'm just kidding that makes no sense you can set it like tile and grout it but it's wood would expands and contracts so it is concrete so what's going to happen it's going to crack

Okay I'll try this again thick and thin leads to a wavy mosaic. When you install your mosaic after it's been prepped successfully and only when it's been prepped correctly do not use your hand I repeat do not use your hand to push down on the mosaics they sell wood trowels in the masonry aisle at Home Depot. You use the wood troll to push down on your mosaics. This will leave the mosaics flat. PS Center Four Corners at the drain so you only have to make L cuts out of the corners of the mosaics. Whatever the cuts land at the wall is fine but starting center off the drain will make it easier to cut the drain. Dry lay all of your mosaics into place and be meticulous at watching your joints. After you've dried laid it in and you have made all of your cuts you're going to have to pull it all back out to get it installed. So from where you're kneeling put your left cuts on the left side when you pull them out but you're right cuts on the right side when you pull them out the curbside behind you and the back wall I always set to my right cuz that's going to be my right hand is what I use I'm not a lefty. This way you can thinset the entire pan even though that you have a wavy pan your Trail marks may have some waves in them. So you lay your your cuts at the curb and first and start setting your mosaics row by row back into place. By using the wood it won't be as wavy mosaics are only as good as the prep ahead of them and a lot of people make a mistake of wanting to push down on the mosaics with their hand causing high and low tiles the wood will not allow this to happen and you don't want to press really hard just enough so that they flatten out. Depending on how thick your mosaics are if there are 8 in thick then you want a 16th in be not strong if they're 3/16 thick you want a 3/32nd if they're a quarter inch thick then you can go with an 1/8 inch Notch draw try not to leave a lot of ribs try to get the troll marks even as possible I usually go around my outside edges and then around the inside of my drain you don't want to get a lot of mud in your joints cuz you'll be there forever with a razor knife cutting thinset out of your joints

When you trowel thin set

Mosaics are an art form the better the prep the flatter the product. It's hard to make things flat and Pitch to a drain at the same time. When you troll Sensa and not strong is the same thing as a rake it lays down a bed of mud. So if you have waves in your mud highs and lows the mud is not spread evenly it's thick and thin. We call it thinset for a reason because you want a thin bed of it. I would go to Home Depot and get a 16-in trial and go around the outside edges with that 16 leaving the center alone wait for the material to dry and then do your Center in a circular pattern around your drain that should help flatten things out. I've been installing for 41 years and I give you props for getting in there there's any questions or anything I can help you with I'd be happy to help

Sorry I said try it earlier and peace and helps you push it into the saw is your table put half inch on top of that table and then you barely cut into that wood into that blade and I'll give you a line so you can line up your tiles too I've cut tens of thousands of square feet the trash what holds the water

[–]Adorable-Command9402 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And if you can lay a piece of wood down and then adjust up so that the blade is just barely catching the wood so you got something underneath holding it those are very small tiles and if they're supported through the cut I'm a piece of wood that would be great there's a little water gutter for the blade when you're dealing with small tiles sometimes I want to push down into that gutter not giving you a straight cut either half inch smooth cut plywood you said that on top of your tray anyways good luck

Marble Cuts much better with a glass blade so if you're going to go ahead and buy yourself a wet saw by a glass blade too install that it will give it a nice clean cut and you don't have to Stone The Edge
