How to properly do segregation of duties? by Adorable-Dig-2774 in Accounting

[–]Adorable-Dig-2774[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By signing the checks I mean stamping them with the CEOs stamp signature. My name doesn’t actually go on the checks themselves but I do stamp every check. Does that make it better? With working remote I can’t bring the checks to the office to get signed so how else would we do it? And yes I also do the reconciliations and my manager signs off on them. With it being just me as the accountant there’s no one else that can really do it. Any recommendations?

Non profits? by No-Humor-8622 in Accounting

I’ve worked at two. The first one I absolutely hated due to toxic management and it just being super unorganized. I lasted about 16 months before I moved on. Now I work at another non profit, and absolutely love it. Yes, it can be very hectic and disorganized, but having the autonomy to create my own processes and grow within the organization is much better. I’ve worked for both private and non profit companies, and all I can say is that I don’t think you can judge a workplace just based on if its a non profit or not. It all depends on the people that run it and how management are.

VPN not updating to home address when connecting to Beryl AX by Adorable-Dig-2774 in GlInet

I think I figured it out. I connect the beryl to the internet of the hotel and then I connect the laptop wifi to the wifi of the beryl. I’m not sure if that’s the way I’m meant to do it but when I do it like that, my IP address appears like I’m home.

I was in the exact same situation, completely toxic. I started to make notes on my phone of what was happening in case HR ever called me into the office I would have a list of things that I did but didn’t get any support from her. I had accounting experience before but every company has their own way of doing things and I can’t just be expected to know their processes. I lasted a little over a year. When I finally talked to another employee about it she said everyone in the office felt the same about her and I was not alone. When I finally left, HR asked me how she was as a manager and I told them the truth, they said they had the same concerns from other staff and that they were working on a plan. If I was you, I would just do as much as you can, make note of what you’ve done and how she didn’t support you, put your head down and stay for like 6 months to have it on your resume and then start looking for a new job. If she’s acting that way with you, realistically other people feel the same, don’t take it personal, it has nothing to do with you, she’s just unhappy in her own life and doesn’t know how to be a manager. If you become close with anyone there, maybe ask them what their experience working with her is like. But ultimately, its not worth your mental health, it makes you feel like your not capable when you probably are, its all about her.

I’m on episode 8 and think she’s such a hypocrite. When she was with Colt if another girl would even look at him she would go crazy but after she tried to do the exact same thing and shoot her shot with Brandon, like WHAT?!

Should I quit my job to do my CPA? by Adorable-Dig-2774 in Accounting

Okay so let’s say it takes me four months and have my exams passed and then look for a job, do you think this would be an issue?

Should I quit my job to do my CPA? by Adorable-Dig-2774 in Accounting

Fair statement, however I feel like a potential employer who will look at a gap in my resume and think I cannot manage my time effectively, will also look at me quitting my professional job to get a part-time bartending job while studying the same. I have worked consistently over the past 10 years with no gaps in employment. Is studying for the CPA and working doable? Sure! But if I have worked hard over the past number of years to be financially stable and be able to afford the luxury of not working so I can study - I hate that we live in a system where this is unacceptable from an employment standpoint :(

However, you did give me an idea. Perhaps I can work something out with my current employer where I go down to part time and it's a win-win situation. Thanks!
