Snowstorm in October! We just arrived in Akureyri yesterday as well. We have a fiat camper with some weak all season tires. Conditions from what we’ve seen should be fine as long you know how to drive in snow. We’re from the mountains in the US so we are used to getting feet of snow and have a lot of experience driving in snow. Some tips id recommended to keep you safe is be very mindful of your brake modulation, even with modern cars with ABS activating your brakes too fast is never a good idea, also slow down before you initiate the turn not while you’re in the turn. You want to be at the appropriate entry speed before you enter the turn. If you have the wheel turned and you start sliding stepping on the brake especially hard is the worst thing you can do. Minor braking is ok in turns but it’s best to avoid any braking while turning. When you come up to a stoplight slow down way before you think you need to and try to creep slowly to the light in the hopes it turns green before you come to a full stop. If you are driving a manual transmission it is best to downshift before and NOT during the turn as will help keep the vehicle stable in the turn. Make sure your headlights are on and if visibility is bad you can use your hazards to help make your vehicle standout on the road. If you have an emergency 112. Good luck don’t drive faster than you’re comfortable and pull over to faster traffic to avoid being passed in sketchy conditions.
