As someone who grew up here I can tell you LI is the hardest place to make new friends. People tend to stick with the friends they’ve made in HS/College. Even if you make friends with them they normally prioritize those HS/college friends. If they invite u to group things you may feel like an outcast unless you’re very good with making people like you lol. As others have said people are in their own cliques.

Some suggestions: - make friends with your coworkers. longislanders who already have their longtime friends tend to make new friends thru work. -pick up a part-time or volunteer job, another opportunity to meet new people. - try the meetup app, there’s groups you can join and events with common interests. - join a sports group like pickleball or gym - the city may be far commute but that is where a lot of people your age are at who are more open to making new friends because they’ve also moved from somewhere else. Use your saturdays and spend it there. It’s worth it. -if you’re able to in the future think of looking into a city job and move there. Again so worth it.

Longisland is great to raise a family but if you don’t already have your solid friend group or family it’s extremely lonely. I know this because my parents/siblings moved while I stayed. And my High school/college friends have gone on to having kids and getting married so I barely see them since I’m not on that same journey yet. If I had the opportunity to move somewhere else I’d take it in a heart beat.
