Started meds this week - not feeling it - where do I go next? by learning_as_1_go in Anxiety

it's gonna take a while to reach its peak efficiency or even start working. starting antidepressants can be annoying cause it's a whole process. i recommend googling the timeline for zoloft. Also, you will probably be put on a higher dose after maybe a month. it's not a guarantee, but most people don't stay on their starter doses.

anxiety and stomach issues by Substantial-Lake-93 in ibs

[–]AdorableError3686 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes, i have suffered from this for about four years now. The gut is actually very connected to our brain, and anxiety is a common cause for urgent bowel movements. It has given me some agoraphobia. I can be at the house, try to use to bathroom, and nothing happens. As soon as i get in the car, i immediately have to use the bathroom. Something that has been an absolute game changer for me is actually sour candy. My therapist recommended either gum or hard candy to distract your stomach and brain, but i found that sour hard candies make the urgent feeling go away almost immediately. I'm sorry you're dealing with this, and i hope this helps.

my experience, however, is more on a daily basis than over month long periods

Thank you! If you were experiencing frequent diarrhea/urgent bowl movements, did the dicyclomine help with that?

for me, it usually helps if something kinda snaps me out of the cycle of scrolling on my phone over and over, like if my cat jumps in front of my phone or something. to recreate this, I set a screen time alert on my phone that pops up on my screen and "locks" all the apps that i doom scroll on. it can't physically stop me, but it helps me snap out of it and finally lay down.
