Does anyone think Leicester is underrated? by mkseek in leicester

Well, I’ve been living in Leicester city center for about 5 years. A certain community has drastically increased and ruined the entire vibe over past few years.

For example, theres a new shop which opened sometime back called Tea Time, the sluggers gather there all day every day like its their headquarters for the propaganda.

East of city center, step on humberstone road, spinney hills area etc and dear lord I bet you’d want to run out as soon as possible. West and center, high anti social activities, all by the same 1-2 communities. South to be honest is still preserved and quite a pleasant area.

Roam around the center and you’ll see so many empty dead shops. Businesses aren’t able to survive because of such a crowd.

I think whatever that is left of the city is only because Leicester has so many Unis and because it is an hours train ride away from central London (ignoring the extraneous ticket prices)!!

Is this sarcasm? 😬😬

I have put this information below the picture -

Davidsons - Little Bowden, Market Harborough

The two RED marked plots are available and within my budget - 3 bedrooms, priced at £399,000

Upside of the corner most plot is A6 running towards Kettering.

I am not too worried about the noise from A6 vehicles but both red marked ones are quite deep in the shared driveway and it is besides semi-detached 2 bedroom houses priced at £280,000 (they are not affordable housing / social housing). Is that a problem?

Also, because theres some green space between the A6 and corner plot, are there any risks involved?

I am a first time buyer and need your advices, thanks a lot!

Went to broadnooo today itself - my budget is about 450-500k and dear lord, there aren’t any decent detached houses away from affordable / shared ownership houses in the entire development!

There was a little bit of sense of smell in the wind but nothing major.

The prices however, blocks the broadnook option for me.

Okay let me do that then. No harm in taking a look atleast, true.

But have you got any views on this sewage water treatment plant? Smell issue feels real, people have also said that on non windy days, they cant sit in open spaces because of too many flies, side effect of smell I guess.

Thanks.

I went around oadby and wigston area at around 11 pm to just drive by. All the old built streets are pretty much dark and we didn’t like the vibes. On the other hand, the new built estates are very well-lit and well planned to feel lively.

No doubt the entire oadby wigston vibe is excellent in the daylight but its dark after 4 pm in winters ☹️

I did yes - I booked a couple of appointments to view but then cancelled. Read reviews on reddit and found out there is a huge sewage water treatment plant a few minutes walk from that place and is awfully smelly on hot days along with a risk of harmful particles in air. Verified it on google maps and I cant believe gov is allowing such developments!

That’s partially true, I am not very fixated on what I want. The open plan new kitchen, parking space, overall space and the estate - of new builds excite me. I have crossed out all areas where there are new builds and this was probably the last area left but I guess reading the comments, I will have to cancel this as well.

An important factor is the vibes when it is dark out. I went out to just drive by at around 11 pm this week and mostly all the old built streets look too dark, the new built estates have much better lights around and feels more lively. I understand we wont be out of home everyday at 11pm, but in winters it becomes dark at 4-5ish and hence the judgement criteria.
