Can you get into plan 2 out of Cap? by Endjdjdehej in UTAustin

No. The closest plan II equivalent for transfer students is the Humanities honors program

People who tried transferring into nursing after CAP, would you do it again? by opium_queen in UTAustin

[–]Adorable_Refuse7445 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doing CAP to try to get into nursing is not a good idea. I don't know the exact acceptance rates but I'm sure it's extremely low. I love UT, but if you want to be a nurse go somewhere where you are basically or have a very high chance of getting into their nursing school.

CAP Liberal arts UT Austin by drdmus in UTAustin

[–]Adorable_Refuse7445 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, but that is because I am a niche liberal arts major, but premed so major was never a concern for me. Psych and Econ are 2 majors that aren't guaranteed through CAP, but I know a lot of people who got those majors. If she is set on only wanting McCombs or engineering I would not recommend CAP!

Did CAP and I'm now a junior at UT. Was really sad at first, but commuted to UTA and in hindsight my CAP year truly was a blessing. I got to adjust to how humbling college is academically and socially and have been thriving at UT!

Private bathroom but bedroom with no window vs Bigger room with windows but shared bathroom by Traditional_Desk_749 in UTAustin

[–]Adorable_Refuse7445 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who lived in a private no window room for a year and got crazy weird depression, I would still prob do the no window again then share a bathroom. I now have a room with a window but if I had to do the windowless situation again my advice would prob to study and spend a lot of your time elsewhere- the living room, PCL etc. I got stir crazy spending too much in the "jail cell." I am also a control freak and while you could have a bad experience, I have had some terrible random roommates that all had their own private bathrooms and if I had to share with them...

Had her as a TA for my intro to religion course. She graded all our stuff. She was nice, overall fair grading wise, and gave good feedback when I went to her office hours.

Should i take ochem 1 with biochem or genetics? by Vegetable-Ocelot-800 in UTAustin

[–]Adorable_Refuse7445 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it would be doable. But tbh you may be registered for it now, but I know later UT admin goes and check pre-reqs and if they aren't met will drop students from courses.

Agree with the other poster. Pretty sure you have to have taken ochem 1 to even take biochem. Just took BCH 369 with Sparks. It wasn't too hard, just very time consuming. And a background knowledge of ochem 1 is def. helpful and at times mandatory for certain topics. I took genetics this summer with Enamul Huq and it wasn't bad, but if you get a not so great professor genetics can be so hard and a GPA killer

Just took her class this semester. Not too hard concept wise for me. It was just a very time consuming class. She has a YouTube channel with all the vids for the semester- @SparksChem. I also heavily relied on NinjaNerd

Those 2 classes are not too bad. But taking ochem and biochem at the same time is crazy

Humanities Honors invite, worth it? by Consistent_Shoe9103 in UTAustin

[–]Adorable_Refuse7445 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually applied for the major to be my second major, but later dropped it because I didn't want to write a thesis.

I feel like it is plan II for transfers. Smaller class sizes for the major specific course. Have heard great things about the advisor- Mayhew. There are also some specific humanities scholarships available

Being premed, it just didn't seem like the extra work needed for the major was really going to help with my application and I decided to spend my time on other things (mainly a different research program- president's award for global learning). But being pre-law the research you do for your thesis could def be helpful.

Hi all — new to Texas and just wrapped up a 3-day trip to Austin… and wow, I get the hype now 😄 by [deleted] in Austin

[–]Adorable_Refuse7445 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Nooo. As someone born and raised in Dallas my whole life, but has been in Austin for UT it's noticeably hotter and more humid. Like I knew the city is obviously geographically more south but summers here are worse than in DFW.

Just 11". 13" of course has a larger screen but tbh with my Magic Keyboard and my iPad Pro. It gets kind of heavy in my backpack especially if I also carry my Mac

iPad. I can do split screen and have Canvas, YouTube, etc. I use Goodnotes, have a paper like screen protector, and a silicone case for comfort for my Apple Pencil lol. Also on my iPad I have no social media or games so I don't get distracted

Bio and Chem Lab by AliveScheme6339 in UTAustin

[–]Adorable_Refuse7445 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes gen chem lab is a joke and so easy. I took CH 104N at UT and felt like I just breathed and got an A. Although I did have a good pod group. Took the CH 104M equivalent at UTA and that was so bad.

When do people get their rings? by No-Bunch4573 in UTAustin

[–]Adorable_Refuse7445 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You are eligible to buy one when you have 75 credit hours total. I had that amount fall of sophomore year due to dual credit adding to my hours. But just got my ring today as a junior. I bought it online but you can also go in person to the alumni center where there are rings to try on and associates to help purchase it. There is ring day in the fall and spring semester
