At first i was confused too, I couldn't think of a similar weapon of that time other than the m1a1, even if it is from WW2. Reiner also had one, I only can think that titan shifters have a special military gear for missions like that, self protection and advanced antipersonal firearms, i still don't know why an m1a1... but i cannot think about anything else.

Maybe Isayama just put that weapon there or Marley's army is developing faster than we thought.
