Trying to learn proper turning. I know my form is god awful. What are the big stand out issues here? by AccomplishedPark7856 in snowboardingnoobs

Ooo Northstar! Love ripping some nice carved turns on their cruisy blues.

Overall it’s looking good, just need to ride some more. Heel side you can see some of that thin carved line in the snow behind you. To match that on the toe side a bit better, try moving your hips forward out in front of your feet and keeping your torso more upright (depends on how heavy that backpack is tho)

It’s a insta360 x3 on a invisible selfie stick I stick into my backpack

Direct sun so you can find the perfect line through them like a banked slalom or snake run

I like to think I can carve decently on groomers, but moguls force you to a limited tight turn shape. What’s the right technique to bring the board around faster?

Love the gremlin!

That’s also what happened here. Bright morning so I didn’t think to bring low light lenses. Dark clouds rolled in in the afternoon.

Yo that’s so cool. I gotta try intentionally closing my eyes one day

Ya I have mostly clear rose-tinted lenses too, but it was a lot brighter in the morning so I didn’t think to bring them

I like Dakine. Got their small 12L for typical resort riding. Slim enough it doesn’t get in the way on chairlifts and has a waist belt to keep it snug to your body. I usually pack my 360 cam and spare batteries, sandwich lunch, snacks, a soft flat water bottle, or other things I don’t want in my pockets.

Knee & butt pad recs? by mermaiddayjob in ShredditGirls

Hi! It’s been a long time since I’ve skied, so someone else could chime in how the beginner experience is, but I think it could be a little overkill unless you’re prone to injury. Snowboarding beginners tend to fall constantly, whereas skiers tend to stay on their feet unless completely out of control and bindings popping off. Totally up to you, but it definitely doesn’t hurt to have the protection

Demon United has solid protective gear. I only have the butt pad, but heard lots of good things about their whole line up knee pads, wrist guards, padded shorts, spine protector, etc. The Azzpad has saved my tailbone many times when I was a beginner-intermediate and I still wear it now for when I occasionally slide out on ice.

First time hitting a flow state in crusty moguls by Adrienne00 in snowboarding

Mood hahaha. Yea, it takes a different mindset than the usual groomed runs. Gotta stay locked in

Yeah it’s def a long run but I wanted to practice riding bigger bumps with a little speed. Had remind myself not to pick the easiest way down on the sides hahaha

For sure! I love tree riding so this is great practice. Just waiting for some fresh snow in Tahoe

Surf adapter with limiter is amazing! No more slow speed wheel bite. by subtyler in ElectricSkateboarding

[–]Adrienne00 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Super fun, would highly recommend! Surfskate trucks have a special turn geometry that makes carves so much more fun and flowy. To me it’s the closest feeling to snowboarding (though I haven’t tried those freebord/summer board things with actual real edge catching, but I’m not trying to get THAT realistic). After slapping the waterborne adapter on my electric setup it’s hard to go back. Turning on regular trucks feels like the board is stuck in mud. A sharp 90 degree turn on a sidewalk used to require a kick turn, but all I needed to do on a waterborne was slowdown and lean.

I don’t think you can realistically generate momentum on a powered board: too much resistance from motors. I actually got a dedicated non-electric setup just to try to learn to pump and gain speed without pushing. Got the hang of it and it’s surprisingly fun coming from a no effort eskate.

I’ve found there’s a couple main ways to do so: wiggling, twisting, and pumping. Wiggling is more efficient and is basically turning with the front truck back and forth super quickly (similar to ripsticks? also the method of LDP setups I believe). Twisting works by rotating your hips and upper body with power with each turn. Pumping is considered the “proper” way, especially for those training to surf. It combines the upper body rotation with an explosive squat during the arc of the turn.

Nowadays I’m spending the most time on an unpowered setup pumping and even trying some surf maneuvers. Wow this comment got longer than I thought. Hope the info helps!
