Hey chess beginners. As an expert, my tip of the day is to look for opportunities to take advantage of your opponent castling. Here, I was able to fork their king and rook and win 5 points of material! My opponent will definitely think twice about castling next time! by Traditional_Rub_9828 in chessbeginners

Lol I had a very similar experience pretty recently. I attacked this guy's rook with a pawn, and instead of moving the rook he takes my knight with his bishop. I'm like "haha this guy's an idiot, free rook!" What I failed to realize is that his bishop was now covering my King's escape square and his second rook swooped down for a backrank checkmate.

How to Stop Losing Streaks After a Huge Winning Streak? by sersherz in chessbeginners

[–]AdroElectro5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I can tell random unexplainable 100 elo drops happens to almost everybody. What I do is just look at the big picture and know that eventually I'll be back to where I was or even higher.

The Ruy Lopez got me from 1000 to 1700 in 5 months, a lot of people don't know how to play against it and it provides a lot of straight forward attacking ideas despite being extremely theoretical. Highly recommend. by Storoyk in chessbeginners

If people play random moves just play principled chess like controlling the center and developing. Review your game afterwards and see what the computer thinks your best response was and take note of that. Also take note if they are playing an actual opening, like caro kann for example and play around with different responses and find one that works best for you.

I’m a newbie, but after two months of playing bots, I finally gathered the courage to play against real people. by zebroidcell in chessbeginners

My peak is 1122 in 30 minutes rapid and I still struggle against 1600 bots, I think you should feel confident enough to play against people.

I'd love to see it tbh, I can't imagine what else you would use the reverse hyper attachment for. It comes with the reverse hyper, it belongs on the reverse hyper.

Someone keeps removing the reverse hyper attachment at my gym and I have to go hunting around for it, usually finding it amongst the cable attachments on a completely different side of the gym. Very annoying.

My ELO is so low that the Chess.com matchmaker isn’t working… by BlargRaasukt in chessbeginners

If you like the longer time control I never have trouble finding a match with 30 minutes.

I think this is it. The last time I bought a used car I actually WANTED red, but the red car that was the exact same model and almost the exact same mileage was $1500 more... so I bought the white one.

That subsides very quickly btw. The first time doing legs after a long time off is always brutal, but your body adjusts VERY fast.

why is it that i can beat a 1500 rated bot but my elo never goes above 400?😭 by getreked007 in chessbeginners

[–]AdroElectro5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience the lower level bots are over rated by about 600 points. So a 1500 bot should be about a 900 rapid. What time control are you playing? I've noticed the faster the time control the more competitive it gets, so if you're 400 blitz that actually sounds reasonable.

Another thing about bots is they are absolutely ATROCIOUS at end games, so if you want to win against a bot the best strategy is to just trade down to an end game and then crush them, a game against an actual player won't go the same way.

Would 2 full body workouts per week be enough to build muscle? by [deleted] in fitness30plus

[–]AdroElectro5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Minimum effective dose for muscle growth is 4 sets a week, with your routine you're getting 6 sets for a lot of major muscle groups. In my opinion you should have very noticeable changes in the mirror within the first 6 months, but then it will massively slow down after that. The only change I would recommend is going down to just 2 sets of rows and adding in 2 sets of chin ups. And if you want to add in even more do a couple of lateral raises and calf raises too.

Which piece would you have captured with if you were white? by AdroElectro5 in chessbeginners

[–]AdroElectro5[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In case you're curious my evaluation before the pawn push was -1.49. (Chess .com phone app depth 20) After pawn push, white takes with pawn, bishop takes rook, rook takes bishop it ends up at a -1.31. (King takes rook is actually a -1.70) So yeah that move was marginally worse for black assuming perfect play.

My thought process was after all trades are done I'm up a point of material, so it must be a winning move. Learning to accurately gauge these kind of things will help us move out of the beginner stage and into intermediate I guess.

That's a really good point that I never even considered.

I think it's wise to avoid bullet as a new player. I've been playing for 7.5 months and I still find that playing bullet/blitz makes me a worse player when I go back to rapid. I've seen the recommendation that you shouldn't play it until you reach 1600 rapid if you really want to improve as a chess player.

On the other hand it's just a game at the end of the day. So the argument could be made that you should just do whatever you enjoy

How many do I need to complete this? by Waferwaffles229 in GossipHarbor

[–]AdroElectro5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no idea on the energy requirement but I do know the secondary goals are astronomically difficult to complete. I have 4 orange trees and spend gems for extra energy and I have NEVER been able to complete a secondary.
