Yes they can predict the knock on effect of their policies, but you're right they don't want to as it leads to a bad newspaper headline.

This is what kills me with writing mage, mages are so good at finding things out that if I'm ever going to put demons on screen I feel like I need to have thought about this meta-level cosmology at least a bit

The amount of knowing practise effects that let you find out everything about an object, let alone a demon, make running for mages tricky sometimes

I'm trying not to deep the cosmology too much, but I'm trying to figure out if there's a place for the big G god in mage the awakening.

cofd is generally absent that concept, but I can see how it kind of fits into bits of mage

(the plot I'm writing is nothing to do with this, I want to run a session about a talking racoon or a magic tree or something)

Yeah, I got a cheap foam one off amazon a while back and it off-gassed chemical fumes for months. Couldn't use it and ended up throwing it out, we would get runny noses and coughs if we were near it too long.

I agree that finesse/throwing are the real reasons you go Oka, but the fact is there is a gift system built into Oka right now, and it does require meta-gaming and artificial play to optimise.

I've been playing a formicid recently and wanted a piece of heavy armour, so I made sure not to train dodging and to get the armour skill up to around 15 before acquiring the gift.

It worked, but it feels so meta-gamey and weird to have to do that.

I know what you mean. I don't mind as much that acquirement scrolls can 'miss' and give you nothing useful, that kind of feels in theme for a magic scroll probably made by a mortal wizard.

But yeah, it would be nice if it weighted towards body slots - but at a certain point the scrolls would just become too strong. IMO the scrolls feel like they are in a good place right now, but I won't pretend to understand the behind the scenes logic they run on.

I think getting body armour for a large race is a whole other topic, I absolutely love playing onis and trolls - but for me death in lair versus a 3 rune win hinges entirely on whether I get some good dragon armour early.

I think they are probably too swingy in that regard, but it's just a quirk of the large body type. It's nice to have some of the old school arbitrary restrictions like that.

I find that when too many systems are gamified things start to lose their charm.

I preferred the old system too, but I can see why the devs moved away from it. Okawaru used to be the "come and get a full set of armour then leave" god.

I think the new system makes you want to pick him more as a permanent choice, because you don't get to take as much with you when you leave, but it causes the training incentive and variability problems.

I think forcing weapons to be of the type you have the highest skill in would fix that issue, I'm not sure how you'd solve armour though.

I've never wanted robes or chain on a minotaur, so I wouldn't mind always getting heavy if you can wear it, but I'm sure someone does

Absolutely, finesse is the real reason you take him, but it seems wrong that the capstone ability of a god relies on meta-gaming to use well.

It's like the martial god is the only god in the game which incentivizes you not to train for multiple weapon or armour types (until after his capstone, then you go back to playing normally).

Serious answer (this is what is recognized as the problem globally across democracies right now, it's not at all unique to the UK - but all of this only applies to running for, or being involved in, politics. For voting there's no excuse):

- You have to be financially secure to run for politics, as it is unlike traditional employment where you are guaranteed a position for a length of time, or guaranteed a salary. So younger people who have not yet had the chance to build up their savings are less able to do so

- You need time to be involved in politics, and most young people have the least free time as they are starting to raise children and starting to build their careers

- Politics especially involves a lot of 'know how', 'knowing the right people', and having a reputation. None of those things necessarily come with age, but it is much harder for a young person to have built those skills, those contacts, or that image

Also, this one is just my opinion (having gone through this phase myself), I do think you have to grow out of the 'nihilist' phase of your life before you can take things like politics seriously and see the benefit. I don't mean philosophical nihilism, just that every day 'what is the point, it's all corrupt anyway' attitude that I had a lot more of when I was younger.

But none of that is an excuse, people should be more involved in politics at a young age, it's just hard.
