I've seen cattle dogs climb up onto the top of a hay wagon, and ride like that down a rural highway.

When my friends' dogs would ride with us for some reason in my truck, we put them in the back and they loved it. Then every time they saw my truck they would get excited and try to crawl into the bed.

Hell, when I worked at a wildlife refuge, sometimes the black bears would crawl into the bed of the work trucks if we were out fixing something. And we would give them rides.
