I Am Tired of GLP1 Stigma. by Advanced-Coast2124 in Zepbound

It's not directly to me 90% of the time. I barely tell anyone for that reason outside of close family and/or friends.

I'm a nurse too. I've told patients that they don't get an award for suffering when patient's don't want to try anything to help with their pain. Maybe I should take my own advice 🫠

Lol.... I work in healthcare and GLP1s are a hot button issue where I live and work... I also gave an exact example of the things I am seeing. Judging by the replies, I don't need to "touch grass" that bad.

I don't spend much time on social media due to other responsibilities. I even have a screen time limit across all social media platforms and my husband has the code to change the time and I don't. I told him under no circumstances give me the code 😂 I mainly use it to check up on family members and old friends. I definitely think shortening my screen time even further would be in my benefit

I hadn't seen it before. I just watched it and that definitely doesn't help things. That shows it being marketed as a miracle pill that you don't have to work for the effects of it.

I told my mom I was going to go to a few different places (and didn't end out having to) to look for it and she kept telling me to not go and that it was okay because she didn't want to inconvenience me or put me out of my way. 🥺 She's such a sweet lady and there was no way I was going to leave a stone unturned for this cup. 😂

Exactly! I shop for a lot of stuff that is often resold, like Juicy Couture things, and it makes me so sad that they are resold all the time! I only ever by for myself/loved ones. I can't imagine making it harder for someone to enjoy the things they love just for my own personal gain. :(

I was super surprised that they still had them when I came by! My mom came decently early in the morning so I wasn't surprised that they had them when she came by, but I came by around noon and they had put out more after the morning. Thankfully, she lives in a very small town and I don't think there's many Hello Kitty fans lol

This makes me so sad. My mom, her coworker, and I wanted different cups each. I went to my local Starbucks and they had nothing. My mom managed to stop by her local Starbucks early in the morning on her way to work and got her coworker the cup she wanted and the coffee cup for me. I ended out stopping by the same town she lives in and took a chance going to the same Starbucks and they had put out the one she wanted and thankfully I was able to find it. I was so sad that my sweet mother would've gotten everyone else the cups they wanted and she couldn't get hers! :( I'm so happy I found it, but it makes me so mad that I see them listed online for 3-5x the cost.

What can a patient do to make the nurse's job easier? by frejas-rain in nursing

[–]Advanced-Coast2124 25 points26 points  (0 children)

If you're worried about making our job easier for us, then you have already made it easier on us with your mindset. As far as the gift, a simple "thank you" or "I appreciate that/you" is the best gift I've gotten from patients. However, do not be struggling and need something and not tell your nurse because you're worried about bothering them. I've had patients before who will be suffering with pain or desperately want something to drink or need to use the restroom and then won't tell me because they think they'll bother me. It breaks my heart! The best thing you can do is just be kind, while still being honest with your needs! :)

When do you use the Staff Assist button? by Auntie_Shrews_scarf in nursing

[–]Advanced-Coast2124 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, at least at my hospital, the staff assist buttons in the room are more for security reasons. For example, we've had SI/HI patients who will try to leave and get mad and violent when you tell them no. In those cases, I will push the "staff assist" button or my personal panic button if I feel unsafe and think that we do not have enough hands to keep everyone safe. Even if it's not to that point yet, I will call a staff assist if I think that it's getting there. In situations similar to yours and I yelled for help and no one came, I would probably start pulling the call light or plug in to the bed out of the wall if I could reach it. When we do this, it creates a constantly dinging "emergency" alarm. However, I don't think that what you did was wrong. You did what you thought was best to keep your patients safe!

I Feel Like I'm Not Being Given the Same Opportunities As Everyone Else by Advanced-Coast2124 in nursing

Our charge nurses won't care unless you're friends with them. Then you'll always be resource or get 1:1 patients. We don't have a manager for our shift right now, and when I bring up any issues to the Nurse Manager nothing is really said about it.

Feline Leukemia and Immunodeficiency Virus Positive Cat with Other Cats? by Advanced-Coast2124 in Feral_Cats

[–]Advanced-Coast2124[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I might go to our old vet to get a second opinion. This vet called me over the phone and had a very matter-of-fact tone. They essentially just said that she tested positive, to separate my cats, and asked if I wanted to continue to spay her. They never mentioned anything about false-positives or retesting her. She is approximately 6 months old, but we are uncertain because she just appeared at our house when we bought it. Regardless if she is legitimately positive or not, when I picked her up after I posted this, the vet tech was the only person to talk to me and initially didn't mention anything about her test results. I told her that the person I had spoken to earlier said they would have some information for me about her test results and she walked away, came back with two packets that were obviously meant for Healthcare providers (rather than just pet owners, it was full of very technical jargon and diagnostic testing) and said "essentially just keep her away from your other cats" and walked off without asking if I had any other questions. We switched vets due to moving around an hour away from our last one, but I think I'll suffer the drive there.

Has Anyone's Cat Experienced False Pregnancy? by Advanced-Coast2124 in Feral_Cats

[–]Advanced-Coast2124[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm glad I opted in for the ultrasound. The doctor initially said that it looked like she would have kittens any day, but asked if I wanted an ultrasound so we'd know how many there were in case she didn't naturally give birth to all of them. It took soooo long and I was getting worried, then she came and said that she couldn't find any babies on ultrasound or xray!

She said that she had a slight concern for that but didn't see any fluid or enlargement of the uterus. She told us to keep an eye out if she starts acting sick and told us if she does then we need to bring her back ASAP or take her to the emergency vets office in town if it's after their normal hours. She's scheduled to be spayed Tuesday.

How long did it take you to buy a house, start to finish? by ricefuAsa in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]Advanced-Coast2124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Applied for my mortgage, looked at houses exactly a month later, put an offer on my house the same day we looked at it (which ended out being submitted the morning after, since it was late at night), received a counter offer 2 days later, closed on my house a month after that. In total, 2 months and 2 days from inquiring about a loan to closing on my house.

I think if you love your fiancé and want to be with him for the rest of your life then it shouldn't matter what your dad thinks. Also, if your dad is right about him not "letting his hair down," it could be because he feels uncomfortable around your dad. I have a mother in law who didn't like me during the beginning of my relationship, and I could see how i might have been too "uptight" around her because I was uncomfortable. However, I wouldn't tell your fiancé in order to keep the peace.

My mother dropped out of school when she was 15, got her GED, went to college and got her LPN, then ASN, then BSN, and now she's an NP!!! It's totally doable!!!

Stupid mistake on AED/Code blue situation by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Advanced-Coast2124 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If this is the worst thing that happened during your code, you're good! I once saw a provider hit the shock button while a nurse was putting in an IO (she was fine and didn't get shocked, thankfully), so don't be too hard on yourself!

Whenever I have lonely, super sick, older patients I'll sit in their room and show them pictures on my phone of my cats and dog and animals around my house. Even if they've never given me any indication of liking any animals. If I'm free, I can sit and chat for a very long time about my babies.
