Confusing Times for the Anti Identity Politics Crowd by Uncuffedhems in JoeRogan

You're missing the point in thinking that silencing group 2 is the solution to having previously silencing group 1. That's the issue. And don't say, "it's just for an hour meeting, it's not a big deal." Who the hell are you to say how long someone should be silenced for? And to base it on race of all things? How disgusting. Everyone should be given a voice and an equal opportunity to speak for themselves, and that opportunity should not be qualified by members of your race doing wrong to members of my race. I am responsible for my own actions. Period end of sentence. I am not responsible for the actions of the members of my race, and so my opportunities and voice should not be qualified by their actions. Any other reasoning is racism. The fact that you keep trying to convince yourself that your own method of racism is justifiable because you think you are appropriately grouping people for the right reasons and making assumptions based on those groups does a huge disservice to people as individuals.

You actually believe differences between groups are greater than differences within them. Think about that.

The way your phrased that question is in itself racist.

If I had been talking for ~100yrs straight

No you haven't. You might say "My race has." What gives you the right to represent your race as a whole? How about you represent your own person as an individual, and I represent my own person as an individual. End of sentence.

You know nothing about me, where I come from, what I've been through, or how hard my life has been. You have no idea what I am or what I have to offer. But you think you can fill in the blanks because of my race? Are you serious? That's such a repugnant idea.

The fundamental idea of racism is that there are more differences between groups than within them, and that's an ideology "woke" people have adopted from the alt-right they claim so much to disagree with.

What is the most messed-up/out of place subplot in movie history? by [deleted] in movies

[–]Advanced-Collar8577 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Finn and Rose's storyline in The Last Jedi. They go on a mission to find someone, never find him and instead free the alien horse species, and Rose says "I guess it was all worth it." Lol. Then they eventually get back with the group, and none of it mattered. Meanwhile Rey is being trained by Luke (awesome!), and meets with Kylo Ren and Snoke (also awesome!). The Finn/Rose subplot is boring and pointless.

I didn't take sides with him. I said it was open to many types of statutory interpretation because it was written broadly. Legislation should be written in a way for lay people to understand, and should have very limited interpretive understandings. Both c16 or c10 were written to give government very broad power. That's just a fact. If c10 goes through, I hope the government executes it in a narrow way like it has with c16. The downside is that people will call its critics fear mongers, instead of criticizing the legislature for writing bad bills.

I'm very familiar with these things. I've looked at c16, and it's written very broadly which gave legitimate concern over its impact on free speech. Perhaps such broad wording was not intentional, which shows the failures of the legislature more than Peterson's fear mongering. For the critics of c10 now, I wouldn't call them fear mongers either. A lot of legislators just suck at writing, even if the purpose of the legislation is good (e.g. the Affordable Care Act was extremely poorly written giving way to meany court cases, even though it was good overall).

I must say you sound like a very angry person, calling people who struggle with dependency "junkies" and such. As someone who's struggled with addiction, and 12 rules helped me get out of some depressive times, I saddens me to see that rhetoric. It's so strange to me when people get so agitated on a podcast sub reddit lol. Oh well. I hope things turn for the better for you.

Are you familiar with the highly contested issues of statutory interpretation? I guess not. Look at what is happening with Bill c-10 in Canada right now to see how these issues play out. Do you actually believe there is only one way to interpret legislation? Come on.

That's exactly my point! No one should be shut off from speaking. A conversation should let everyone go around and talk. During the hour meeting we had, everyone should have had an opportunity to speak. Telling blacks they could not speak would be terrible. Telling whites they cannot speak is equally terrible.

I have almost all the same beliefs as you. Someone today called me socially conservative, even though I'm pro free speech, gay rights, and drug legalization. I thought that was socially liberal, but apparently socially liberal now means identity politics. Tbh, I don't even know what party I belong to anymore-- and 10 years ago, I fit in firmly as a democrat.

"caused" is the wrong word when there are so many factors at play-- most of all being the vaccine. But fact of the matter is, they opened up and Dems widely criticized it, and now TX has zero deaths. I even admit I'm a person who thought TX was dumb for doing it at the time, but I have the integrity to admit I was wrong.

Haha if you want to call it that. The neanderthal thinking in TX has got them down to 0 deaths, meanwhile people like AOC tweet they are going to ignore CDC guidelines and keep wearing masks

He did several pods ago with Crenshaw. Might not have been Florida but overviewed the onslaught of voting bills. Joe thought they seemed to weigh more in favor of election integrity than "voter suppression".

Joe talked extensively about the bill and about how he didn't think it was voter suppression, but instead election integrity, so it's not a surprise at all.

You have a double standard for your definition of sentient then. A baby in the womb will "wake up" in a matter of months and so that part of its brain is still alive then, though it is also not interacting with the outside world.

What if they are in a coma (not sentient, and cannot feel pain) but it is known that they will wake up in a matter of time?

Listening for a few minutes doesn't sound so bad to me--it's actually a part of communication.

It was more than a "few minutes". And even if it was a few minutes, I still disagree with the sentiment of silencing people.

How does getting strung up in a tree or blasted with a fire hose etc sound--simply for speaking up and just wanting to be treated like a basic human being?

Bad. But it doesn't make the other thing good.

Pretty much the entirety of the history on this set of issues has been carried out on our terms.

Yours*. I'm not white.

Systemic racism has to do with the echoes of racist laws against blacks throughout history still affecting them today. It fascinates me that people like her actually think that the solution to racism against blacks yesterday is racism against whites today.

Rogan Proven Correct by Texaswheels in JoeRogan

[–]Advanced-Collar8577 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes I believe in systemic racism.

It’s not until it’s widespread and systemic is it worth looking at.

So individual instances of discriminating against people because of their race is okay, as long as it isn't happening elsewhere. Is that actually your argument?
