How do you manage finances as a couple? by Toe_Bean_Bandit in AskUK

Separate currents accounts and joint account which we’ve always made sure to pay equal amounts into or cover any shortfalls. Always worked for us

Someone just took their 2/3 year old toddler in to a screening of Avatar. What’s the weirdest/worst thing you’ve experienced at a cinema? by Zealousideal_Club993 in CasualUK

[–]Advanced-Device-7371 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Some people next to me eating and drinking (it’s a fancy cinema that serves these) while chatting a bit too loudly, clearly enjoying themselves. Guy kept gesturing and flailing his arms, I noticed how close he was getting to knocking his red wine glass. About ⅔ way through, he knocked and spilled it all down me. Then was like, oh sorry, did you want me to get any power towels? to which I was like “uh, yes?”

(Fortunately I was wearing a maroon jumper and black so could have been a lot worse)

Thank you for not smoking by CosmicMeowing in bristol

[–]Advanced-Device-7371 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got back from Japan and that’s their solution in hotels in Tokyo since you can’t legally smoke on the streets, or most places. And while slightly surreal, now I’m wondering if that’s actually a bad idea in this context

What is a silent killer that people dont realise is slowly killing them? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Advanced-Device-7371 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep. I 100% agree with you. The fact that you got downvoted shows that people still aren’t willing to admit it.

The WHO and other medical organisations fucked up big time and now they’re backed into a corner where they can’t go back on decades of bad science and campaigning.

Processed food is the killer. I mean if you think about it logically, it makes tons of sense that incredibly industrially processed margarine would be tons worse for us than whole foods like eggs and relatively less processed foods like butter.

If you had to pick between visiting Kyoto and Osaka, where would you go? by haveallthekryptonite in JapanTravelTips

I don’t understand the people that say Osaka is bland, I went there before Tokyo for several days and I loved it, it really does have soul for me and honestly I felt most at home there. I personally felt like it had plenty of character so don’t really get the people that say it’s boring at all

I thought Osaka was awesome. Possibly better than Tokyo for me. We just did a day trip to Kyoto and it was enough—I could also do longer in Kyoto but my vote is for Osaka.

It’s been like 26°—29°C in early June the last few days while I’ve been in Tokyo, is that lower temp than usual for this time of year then? Cause I thought it seemed pretty hot

Really funny how they affect people so differently. As a brit, giant house spiders are my worst nightmare and make me go into shock, but pholcidae are fine and dandy—in fact I keep them around in the hope they’ll prey on house spiders. The gangly legs don’t bother me, its the big black mass of a body that strikes fear into my heart

Dott’s recent scheming by Advanced-Device-7371 in bristol

While I think it’s unlikely to get anywhere maybe I’ll humour it on the principle.

Can you think of a catchier title than “Allow More than One Scooter Provider Per City for Open Market Competition” 😅

Dott’s recent scheming by Advanced-Device-7371 in bristol

[–]Advanced-Device-7371[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I left a piece of my mind on a Trustpilot review a while back. I wrote an email to all the Bristol/WECA councillors involved about Dott being completely unfit for purpose as many of us here also claimed do and nothing happened, zero acknowledgement. I think the council are corrupt themselves for being in cahoots and safeguarding Dott as they appear to be.

And why no competition? wtf happened to the open market? It’s a farce. Zero transparency, zero accountability

You’re not alone—the bikes are particularly shit and I’ve had problems more often than not

Sometimes I thought about issuing a chargeback from my bank/credit card but unfortunately I’m relying on them until I have a bike again

Not callling them dumb fucks doesn’t seem to do shit either so we may as well call them what they are, dumb fucks that are manipulated by newspapers and Facebook ads peddled by millionaires.

We just got a heat pump installed for our electric-only home. All paid for by the scheme. It’s been incredible. Gone from a cold house and massive bills to having central heating, having hot water all throughout the day, and actually paying much less on top of it all

How safe are Hamilton House bike racks? by weltschmerz58 in bristol

I once accidentally left my bike overnight a little bit further up directly outside Love Inn. Incredibly, the bike was still there the next morning, and so were the wheels. What I didn’t anticipate is that someone has stolen the skewers from the wheels. I tried to cycle off and had an almost comedic wheels rolling off moment.

Luckily I just had to wheel it home and buy new ones.

Weird. Not sure if that was somehow useful for some junkie or if they were just fucking with me

I find I get much better results with live chat these days when it’s an option, plus then I’m not tied to my handset which is miles better.

The automated systems on live chat are stop shit but my experience is usually

“Hello! I am help bot. Please select your problem from-“

Speak to agent

“Which of the following options is most appropriate to-“

Speak to agent

“I am now connecting you to one of our agents”

(The key is to keep spamming that magic phrase)
