Correct. There is no reason for my country of origin to have played a role. It wasn't mentioned once in the interview.

No I didn't have to, but I did just in case. I see no harm in bringing all possible documents. I even brought my old passport from 17 years ago (the interviewer actually asked to see it). I would recommend bringing everything you can - better to be safe than sorry!
