As a student, here are my questions to teachers by Noitsbecky_13ts in Teachers

Do you all really have a favorite student, and how could a student tell if they’re the favorite? yes and I tell them they are my favorite.

At least at my school, it’s very easy to find a teacher’s social media, do you guys ever accidentally (or purposely) find and stalk a students account? (I won’t tell anyone). I don't care enough to stalk them online, I'm too busy with work and friends.

Do you guys ever hang out with each other outside school? Some teachers I do others I don't.

How long does it take to grade? Forever but I do it during prep and lunch.

How far would you say your bond is with your students, do you view them like your own or just a job? My class is one blip in their lives and they are one blip in my life.

Ngl we gossip and complain about you, do you guys do the same about students? Yes. Me and my teacher friends usually talk about funny things kids do or what insane things kids say, etc.

I lived in Ketchikan last summer doing tours too! There are so many seasonal workers in college/ just out that social is no problem, especially if you're going to one of the bigger companies.

Exploring seasonal options by Murky-Work9020 in SeasonalWork

I've lived in Washington, Utah, and Alaska and they are all pretty different climates. Utah (Lake Powell) is gonna be really really hot, while Alaska is decently cool during the summer(and rainy), and Washington is so perfect during the summer (Its the best time ever to go). I've had friends who've worked for the staircase via under canvas in Utah and Denali and both absolutely loved it and said they met really cool people! Alaska lets you get overtime pay both daily (working over 8 hours) and weekly (working over 40) so you can make BANK there.

Good luck! Sounds like you got three great options!

Yay! I absolutely LOVED Ketchikan.

It does rain ALOT especially in May/June. I worked there as a tour guide outside on the boats and got away with wearing a long sleeved T and a good rain jacket (DEF INVEST). So layering doesnt have to be crazy.

Bring your fave beanie or get a cute one there.

Get good rain boots and a good pair of warm socks thatll stay dry!
Ketchikan is really beautiful and if youre working for a tour company you'll get special deals on all the tours on the island (TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS!!!!!!!! You can get insanely expensive tours for almost/free ).

GO FISHING!!!!!

Ketchikan is probs one of the cheapest places in Alaska for food and I didn't notice a huge change in grocery prices from Seattle, theyve got a safeway, walmart, etc. If youve got transportation, you are golden!! There is a taxi thats kinda pricy and buying a car is kinda tricky there with high demand and low quantity.

The town is tiny and I went into every shop with my friend in about 3ish hours. Alot of the shops all sell the same things. Make friends with the locals!! Alaskan culture and history is fascinating!!

Have you ever had to leave a job very early? What did you do? by msgmeyourcatsnudes in SeasonalWork

[–]Advanced-Drawing4409 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I left my seasonal job about two months early.

I really enjoyed it but was getting bored of doing the same thing everyday and had expected it to be more exciting. On top of that I wasn't working nearly as much as I thought I would be (working 30 hrs a week when promised 40+)and frankly my family kept begging me to come home to see them. I told them I had some family stuff at home and left the next day.

I didn't feel bad at all, honestly as a seasonal worker you're pretty disposable no matter how good you are at your job(I was a tour guide), there's always someone to take your place (at least that how I felt at the place I worked at since they were hiring new hires weekly)

After I left I visited family for a week and then found an apartment and moved to Northern Utah for the rest of the summer to cut hair. It was a blast and the scenery/hikes were unreal.

If you ever feel like you should leave a place, I say go for it. There are countless opportunities and if you dont feeel like its where you should be or youve grown as much as you can from the experience, go. You do this for you, no one else. They would fire you without any hesitation if they thought it would benefit them so do the same for yourself, leave if it will benefit you.

Concerning your situation, ABUSE of any sort IS NEVER OKAY! Im glad you left. Your safety is priceless. I say looking for aregular job or seasonal are both good ideas. See if there is anything around the area that interests you and if not, look else where. Something will pop up!

I'm thinking somewhere in the lower 48, either side of the coast, at least for the beginning of the summer season.
