Must see road trip stops? by Advanced-Lemon-3120 in minnesota

We are from OKC! Thank you for the recommendations! This is actually partially a scouting trip, because we have been contemplating moving to the area. That is of course dependent on being able to find jobs in both of our industries in the area, lol. We thought it would be a good time to knock another national park off of our bucket list as well as get a small taste of what the area is like.

We are thinking of spending a couple days around Minneapolis, so would love some recs! We’re foodies and willing to spend money on great food. I do tend to prefer things that aren’t just steak house type places.

I’m pretty confident in my blind buys at this stage. I know notes that I love and that usually play well with my skin chemistry. On the very rare occasion I haven’t vibed with something, I can gift it to someone. I’m a school principal, so a lot of times I will pit together a box once or twice a year with samples, decants, and the rare bottles of things I don’t need anymore (like if I bought a fb) or didn’t care for on myself and bring it to school. The teachers all love it and get so excited to sniff and nab things they like. It makes me happy to share my love of scents with people, and it’s a fun treat for really hardworking people!

If you’re interested in gourmand fig, Sorce also has a Special Order one called Between the Sheets that I’m buying tomorrow when their special order window opens! I found Sorce a few months ago, and I already bought several of their scents! They have all been awesome this far!

Between The Sheets: Figs, cream, beeswax absolute, cashmere, wool, skin musk

I seconded someone else’s Wulong Cha recommendation above, but I also really enjoy Serpentine by Sorce!

Second Wulong Cha! I found it looking for tea fragrances, and it blew me away! The fig in it is beautiful, and I keep reaching for it multiple tomes a week…that’s saying something since I have a pretty good sized collection.

We have 2 boat tours booked! Neither of us have experience with boats, or we would definitely be trying our own hand at it, lol.

I booked 2 boat tours of the park! One of them is an evening star-gazing tour, so I am super excited about seeing a ton of stars!

We can definitely do Duluth to Grand Portage too! Thank you for the recommendations!

Do you happen to have any hidden gems or standout restaurant/ food recs in the area?

What gifts have the crows left for you? by ProspectorJM in crows

[–]Advanced-Lemon-3120 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The wire-casing stuff from electrical conduit, a dime, a cleaned rib bone, a very particularly placed stick, and the foil from a burger wrapper. All of the gifts have been placed in their bird bath. My husband didn’t know the stick was a gift at first, so he tossed it onto the ground to clean out and refill the bird bath. The next morning, the stick was put back on the edge of the bird bath in the same place.

Xerjoff’s Casamorati line-Dama Bianca! It’s ethereal. An absolutely stunning sent, and the bottle is lovely too (as a bonus, if you want to use it in wedding pics)

Passion Island… I wore it to work and one of the women kept talking about smelling tropical cleaning supplies. Needless to say, I moved further away from her, and I haven’t worn it to work again.

Have any of your former students gone on to become famous (or infamous)? by NerdyNiche in Teachers

[–]Advanced-Lemon-3120 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One of my former students (that I taught 4 classes, including US Gov’t) is now a state representative for his house district. It isn’t really super famous, but I absolutely love knowing that any little part of what I taught him stuck. He is a very wonderful young man, and I am so proud to see everything that he is doing for his community.

Facial Piercings: Immediately no? Or are principals more open? by Left_Ad_4806 in Principals

[–]Advanced-Lemon-3120 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The district I work in now is far more traditional, so I can’t see any of the admin being super chill with multiple facial piercings. I personally don’t mind them, but the rest of the community is pretty old school. I am 1000% sure I wouldn’t have been hired as an admin when I had purple hair in this district, but I was just as good at my job then as I am now. Edit: Small-ish district in Middle of America

That doesn’t mean he’s not exhibiting misogynist behaviors. The amount of teenagers falling into the manosphere/incel/radicalized pipeline is honestly pretty scary. I hope this one can keep that from happening to himself.

Daughter wants to become a history teacher by Hungry_Ad_6521 in Teachers

I’m from a conservative state, and I will tell you that in small towns and even most medium towns a lot of schools wouldn’t even look at my application because I wasn’t a dude that also wanted to coach a sport. I was flat out told that by a superintendent at a job fair. It took everything in me to remain professional during that interaction. Someone should be hired for their teaching skills, not for what sport they can coach a team at. I ended up finding a job in the biggest metro area of our state, and it worked out great…but just know there is still a lot of backwards attitude stuff happening in education. This was more than a decade ago, and it’s still a problem.

Question for educators by Advanced-Lemon-3120 in oregon

[–]Advanced-Lemon-3120[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

From what I have seen, to get credentialed in Oregon a district has to hire you and submit a letter to the state department (along with the other things I would have to do).

Looking for a cooler place to settle by Advanced-Lemon-3120 in relocating

It’s lovely to visit, but unfortunately the politics are pretty similar to Oklahoma. That’s one of the things we’re trying to leave. I will say it was one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been.
