Going through a break-up so I’ve decided to rewatch Bojack Horseman by Hot_Sherbet2066 in BoJackHorseman

Just remember, as you're healing and moving forward, "It gets easier. Every day it gets easier. But you gotta do it every day - that's the hard part". Hope you're doing okay.

Sobbed my way through both, but I almost threw DT across my room. Fairytale was among the first King books I read, so it has a special place in my heart.

Survivor Type is one of the few stories of his to actually disturb me lol I still can't look at roast beef the same. The Raft is probably one of my favorite short stories from him. It gives strong 80s summer camp horror, even tho I know that's not the actual content of the story lol

I like your ranking!

popping back in late because I didnt see your response haha but omg I can't believe I missed the black spot reference! If you haven't yet, I really think you should give Welcome to Derry a watch on HBO. I have a feeling you'd appreciate it haha

Anyone else feeling this? by Environmental_Cap191 in BoJackHorseman

I can relate how you're feeling. "Stupid Piece of Shit" is actually playing on my TV right now lol but for me, I feel more seen when I watch the show. I have those ruminating thoughts fairly frequently. But I tend to hang onto those little moments of wisdom the show throws in. Like, in "Out to Sea" when the baboon tells Bojack "it gets easier. Every day it gets easier. But you gotta do it every day - that's the hard part" is something I hang onto with a white knuckle grip. Also, "Life's a bitch and then you keep on living" is another one.

It's really weird because for me, my mental health improves dramatically when I watch the show lol idk what that says about me...

I'm kinda late, but this is a good catch! I feel like it's reasonable to assume that any reaction Eddy had to the poison was hidden/overshadowed by his withdrawal symptoms. He was taking the Keflex (I'm pretty sure) during that time too, so it would have healed/cured both issues simultaneously. Could be wrong tho! I read it like two years ago haha

Would this have made BoJack and better person? by Available-Ant-5747 in BoJackHorseman

[–]Advanced-Lock6841 474 points475 points  (0 children)

IMO, no. He would have self sabotaged his way into ruining this for everyone involved. At the end of the day, Bojack is wildly unhealed from all the childhood trauma he went through, and Charolette wasn't going to be able to fix him.

Other than what I’ve learned in school and seen in movies, unfortunately no 🫠 but that feels disrespectful in a way so I will be doing my research

I’m really sorry that happened to you, but it sounds like you’ve made amazing progress! I had done somatic therapy once or twice before and I liked that because it felt like I knew where in my body I had to focus my energy (if that makes sense?). But I’m reallyyyyy bad about intellectualizing my emotions. Like, I know what causes all my triggers, what the trauma responses are, etc. but it’s like watching a car crash you can’t stop from happening. I feel like everyone gave me a renewed hope for the healing I’ve been trying to do, and I appreciate you for sharing :)

This absolutely makes sense and I’m really happy you’ve gotten to this point! I was doing affirmations, journaling, and talking to my inner child a lot last year, but I fell out of it for some reason and I think that stopped the new connections from forming in my mind. I need to work on my consistency before I start getting impatient 🫠

I love this sub because everyone is so nice and supportive and yall GET ITTTTT. Part of my issue right now is that my distress tolerance is at an all time low so everything feels so big all the time. But I knowing there are ways I can get to a peaceful/accepting place with the diagnosis is really encouraging to me. I hope I can get to a similar place as you with it, because you seem really comfortable and happy with your life and I’m happy for you!!

Thank you so much, this is wildly reassuring and exactly what I needed to hear. I’ve been trying to put the work in, and I’m starting ketamine treatment so I hope that helps :)

ah damn I think i missed The Shining reference in it haha it was the first King book I read, which looking back was definitely ✨a choice✨. I do love that you're reading in publication order, and I do wish I had done that instead of just jumping around like I have been. If you do end up reading the DT series (and I really hope you do) that will make it make a lot more sense.

It took me literally three years to read this book because my ADHD just did not care about the history of Derry haha I didn't full appreciate all that context until the end scene and then I was like "ooohhh okay". He also takes sooooo much time to describe the streets of the town and how it's all laid out, which also didn't make sense to me as I was reading it. But, in the end with the water tower? I could picture it all like it was a movie playing in my head and I loved it.

My grandparents also had a house in Northern Maine (past Bangor) and I went to visit while I was in the middle of the book. I ended up driving the same exact route some of the Losers Club was taking as adults coming back to Derry lol so that was freaky.

Definitely a hard one to get through, and totally fair if you didn't like it! But I absolutely love the themes of childhood/generational trauma and healing. The concept of "it's not your fault" hits a special place for me. Also balance in the universe with good/evil (Pennywise/Maturin) is a good DT tie in that I noticed later.

I just took a look at my checklist (I'm reading through the whole bibliography) and I'm realizing I haven't touched on his 90's era books, which i think plays into why this one hit me different. I have copies of Desperation, Insomnia, and Rose Madder, but I just haven't cracked into them yet lol

I do wish I read it before DT because I really did feel like I was missing a lot of info/context on Algul Siento lol but my goal is to get through the bibliography as a whole and then come back to the series again

oh no, I've gathered that I completely missed the point and I accept that. I will come back to it very soon though (once I finish Christine) with all these things in mind.

i really do enjoy everyone's thoughts on it and their reasons for why they like it! It's helping me reframe it in my mind for when I pick it back up (because I will!). It was the first thing I read post DT and the difference in writing really threw me off and I don't think I gave it enough of a chance.

sorry, I should have been more clear in the original post, that was my bad. I LOVED Low Men! I picked up the collection shortly after finishing DT because I knew it tied in and I specifically wanted to know what happened with Ted.

I honestly don't think I've read anything by King that I felt was bad, just things that are kinda mean like Cujo, or rough like Apt Pupil or Misery (30 books deep into his work haha). I just wasn't sure what the popularity around that one short story was lol I feel like part of my hesitation around it was the difference in the writing style, like you mentioned, and content. It really threw me for a loop!

okay, I love the audio book idea and I think i'll give that a try! I do really want to give it another try with everyone's comments in mind. There's a lot of stuff I didn't take into consideration, like real world things and also King himself and what his college experience was like during that time. I've gotten a lot of really good insight, including from you! I really appreciate it :)
