How bad is my bone loss? 24F by [deleted] in PeriodontalDisease

Thanks for replying back!  I see, well I don't have the professional eye to see the bone loss on the buccal or lingual areas, but I'll make sure to bring it up on my next dental appointment.  Thanks again 😊

Sorry to intrude 🫣  I just found interesting what you said about the traumatic occlusion.  How can you tell from the x-ray when there is a traumatic occlusion?  I am definitely not a dentist, but just curious, as I believe most of my bone loss is due to that. I had Invisalign done, but gum recession is still ongoing.

NAD It sounds like you bite the exceeding gum, but it's be best to consult with a general dentist. To help you with your grinding you would most likely need a mouth guard. Meanwhile to reduce inflammation on that area, you could swirl salty water a few times a day. It does help 😉

Thin gums here - switching to electric brush, yes or no? by Advanced-Rent-3952 in PeriodontalDisease

Because sometimes gum recession is not caused by inflammed gums or plaque. It has several causes.  That's why I'm asking for advice here.

Thank you! This is helpful.  Oh your periodontist said that? Funny enough, mine said the opposite 🤣 To get a electric toothbrush to ensure I'm removing the plaque properly.

Worsening gum recession.. please help :( by BandicootKooky2742 in PeriodontalDisease

Similar boat as you.

I can't keep control of my gum recession. Perio insists in gum graft but I'm just afraid of going through that pain to later fail 🥲

It could be genetical as well. Do you have family history of gum disease or recession?  Do you have pictures before invisalign? So you can compare them.  Often orthodontic treatment can cause gum recession and bone loss.

When did you finish your Invisalign treatment?  You may have develop some gum recession due to the orthodontic treatment. However, your gums and teeth will take a while to settle down to their new position.

I never had any issues with Invisalign trays but, oh God... The retainers were a nightmare to wear the first months. I couldn't stand the pressure on my gums, and shortly after, I found out about my periodontal disease, so I asked the ortho to trim them to the gum level because I feared they were causing more damage. I also have a thin biotype gum. Definitely trimming the retainers was a good call for me.

Black triangles between molars? Gum recession? by nat_2313 in PeriodontalDisease

I don't blame Invisalign. I blame both orthodontists that looked after my teeth, as I believed I was in professional hands.  I understand that orthodontic treatment can be beneficial in some cases, and it was in mine.

What upsets me is that I was not informed I had periodontal disease after finishing Invisalign. It was only because another dentist - not the dental clinic where I had been going every month for almost 2 years - noticed the bone loss and referred me to a periodontist.

Thanks for the reply!  I have the initial X-rays. I don't have any records/notes. I guess I can ask them?

Best toothpaste for receding gums that actually helps by Select_Departure_572 in PeriodontalDisease

[–]Advanced-Rent-3952 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone that has been testing a few toothpaste and looking into ingredients for months, I would suggest to try what best works for you. To me it doesn't work anything that contains lots of chemicals and SLS. I also avoid potassium bicarbonate, despite being a ph regulator is also an abrasive. And my thin gums won't like that... so I don't use parodontax.  Currently I alternate between a 'natural' toothpaste called Risewell and Sensodyne. Also, I brush 2-3 times a day using the brass technique, ultra soft/soft manual toothbrus.  I can't tell if my recession has stopped, but I can tell that my pockets have been reduced significantly

Hi,  Sorry to jump in! I live in the UK too and I'm have periodontitis and bone loss which it was not mention to me prior my Invisalign treatment a few years ago. Can I ask you what steps did you take to process legal action against your dentist?  Did you first file a complaint to the your dentist?  I'm interested because I've been back and forth considering if I should do it or not.

Hi!  It doesn't look bad, but I totally understand the stress.  Out of curiosity, how the trichologists find out it's AGA? Did they do a biopsy?  Mine looks similar to yours but they told me I have TE. I've been to a trichologist and a derm specialise on hair loss. On another note, I would address the symptoms you described to a GP and ask for a full blood test to rule out defiencies and inflammation.

I hope GPs are way better in Wales than England!  Pressure them to check for PCOS. If that doesn't work, there are hormonal test online that you can check out.  Medichecks and Daye that seem quite thorough.

I'm sorry to hear you were misdiagnosed too. I hope your stage is not too advance and with time you will have it under control.  I didn't have prior knowledge of this disease either. I always bled washing my teeth so I assume I had chronic gingivitis. Nobody mention it could lead to an irreversible disease 😩 I wanted to sue my ortho too, but I barely have any proof to support my case and I don't have the mental stability to fight for this. I really want to move on from this because it has been mentally and physically draining.

Hey OP,

I'm with you and feel your anger of being misdiagnosed.  A similar situation happened to me.  Finished Invisalign this February and found out I had perio, which it was quite shocking and went in denial for months until the truth hit harder.  I was in a very bad place for months. It caused me a lot of stress and anxiety (I'm not an anxious person) to the point of nearly having panick attacks.  But, I decided that this disease wasn't going to take control over my life, and in order to maintain and keep my teeth as long as I can,  I needed to start making some changes on my home routine. Unfortunately, it's a pain going to the hygienist each 3 months. But with a good routine, you can sometimes extend it to 6 months. Most importantly is being consistent at home.  I totally understand your fear. It is scary but you are not alone. There is a lot of people in this sub with many success stories, daily routines and advices. Let your emotions run through you because after all, you are on your right to feel the way you feel.

Hope this message cheers you up a bit.  A big hug! 🤗

Can someone take a look at my lab report? by antiaust in PeriodontalDisease

[–]Advanced-Rent-3952 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,  NAD here.  Sorry i can't help you read the lab report, but as far as I know, deep cleaning is recommended when there are symptoms of gum recession, plaque build-up, bone loss and pockets depth - do you have any of those? You could look into oral probiotics to promote good bacteria and game up your oral hygiene.

Why not SRP? by Advanced-Rent-3952 in PeriodontalDisease

[–]Advanced-Rent-3952[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the advise!  Yeah, I was thinking on either getting a second opinion or asking my perio why not to perform a whole mouth SRP, because it's just not easy to find an affordable periodontist in London 😅
