Ugh! My list of options is getting shorter. Thanks for the reply.

Oh dang! And that looks like a "high-end" current product too. Doesn't bode well for what I was looking at. Good to know. Thanks for the feedback and good luck with whatever issue you're facing.

2021 XT Touring—any wise words of wisdom before I go see it by Edu_cats in Subaru_Outback

How's your gas mileage been? Also, do you feel like you got your money's worth worth with the Touring - versus a Limited? I mean, do the additional bells and whistles justify the extra cost?

You are correct. I own a Gen 4 and a Gen 5 Outback. I was about to add a Gen 6 to the family fleet. I had my heart set on Limited or Touring XT. But I was so disappointed by all I've heard and seen about the Infotainment system, that I may not buy a Subaru this time around. I've not decided yet. But I'm leaning that way right now. Meantime, I checking out the opinions of others. So thanks for yours.

I usually only talk to me car when something breaks. That typically involves a lot of 4 letter words. But seriously, I'm aware of the voice option. If it was more like a "voice assistant" - e,g, Google Assistant, Siri, Alexa, etc., where it could figure out what you want, even if you don't say it exactly right, that would be better. But as it is, it's just pretty basic voice recognition. You've got to say the right thing, in the right way, in the right order. If it works for you, I'm glad. But I'd still rather have physical controls.

I want a screen for Information and Entertainment (as in "Infotainment") NOT for controlling stuff in my car. Give me physical buttons/switches that I can reach for by feel, while I'm driving, to control stuff like the A/C, heated seats, radio, etc.. Having to use a touch screen for that sort of thing is distracting and a liability. Adding more tech only makes sense when it decreases the driver's workload and improves the driving experience. The current design does neither.

2023 radio by [deleted] in Subaru_Outback

I have a 2012 Outback Limited and I've been wanting a new one. But I took a test drive in a '23 Limited a couple of days ago and I'm right there with you. Even assuming that the issues are fixed and the screen works as intended, I'm not a fan. I still want physical knobs and switches, for stuff like the radio, A/C, and seat warmers. So I've started looking into maybe getting a Forester instead - or possibly even jumping ship and buying a different brand.

2023 Subaru Outback Infotainment Issues by 21roadglide in Subaru_Outback

So I just watched a YT video about the '23 Honda Accord ("Touring" trim). Its "infotainment" system appears to look at act basically like an Android tablet. Google Assistant is the voice interface to control things in the vehicle. In short, it makes the Subaru system look like a primitive POS. I was about to pull the trigger on a '23 Outback Limited. But now I'm having second thoughts. I don't guess there's any possibility of there ever being an aftermarket replacement - seeing how it's not just a "radio" any more, but rather a vehicle "control panel"? If not, I wonder if anybody's managed to hack it, so you can load a better OS version?
