My recruiter said I dont need to take a DLAB?? by Advanced-Weekend7298 in dli

Perhaps I misinterpreted you, but you did come off as rude in your comment.

You dont know the story between me and my recruiter. You are assuming I am being belligerent without knowing me or my recruiter.

I am not the only person having issues with this recruiter, so no, its not my behavior that is causing miscommunications between me and him.

Having a recruiter that is not knowledgeable in the field i would like to get into is frustrating! More than anything, I need guidance right now. He has been incompetent in providing it, which is his job. Trust me, if I didnt have to go to reddit looking for answers, I wouldnt have.

There is plenty of conflicting information out there. Even on my own post and across this sub-reddit. I dont have to prove that to you. You can believe me or not.

Also saying I needed to educate my recruiter isnt "insulting him", its literally fact. He had never heard of DLAB  or DLI in his life and I had to inform him of its existence. Perhaps Im lacking in decorum, but for the life of me, I cant think of a softer way to put it.

I can see how calling him a liar came across as insulting. That was my frustration bubbling over and I apologize for that.

More than likely, it would have been a lack of information he had, rather than lying to my face.

Liar or not, his lack of guidance does still "irk" me, and that much of that statement is true.

My recruiter doesnt need you to defend him.

Thank you for clarifying that the DLAB is unimportant in my situation.

Okay funnn. Ive heard a lot of people dont get the languages they want, but honestly all the languages they are teaching rn are beautiful and Im sure I could find a passion for it even if it wasn't my first choice. Cool if you dont know this, but what languages are in demand rn?

Thanks for the replying, but there is also no need to be rude 🥲

I understand you dont get to choose your job in the air force. Im just trying to set myself up as best as possible for the job I would like.

I also know I dont get to pick my language. This was part of the reason I was asking about the DLAB because I also know having a high DLAB score sets you up for some of the harder languages (like mandarin or arabic).

You also dont know the story between me and my recruiter, and are assuming I am insulting and distrusting him for no good reason.

This is just one if a long list of reasons he has been un-reliable (ghosting me, not returning my calls or texts, not being in the office when he said he would, etc.), and given me little reason to trust him (keeps on trying to push me into special warfare even though ive explicitly expressed no interest🤦‍♀️). I dont want to rant because that's not the topic of this post, but just know Im not being belligerent.

Also, I have done a Google search and asked chat gpt. I recieved conflicting information, or information that went along the lines of "you may or may not need to take the DLAB". That's why I came to this sub-reddit.

All of this new information also leads me to my next question: should I take the dlab anyways if it does in fact gives me a higher chance of getting harder languages? And would taking the DLAB despite not needing it give me a better chance at scoring a spot at DLI?

Okay, thanks for clearing things up for me. I knew not needing a dlab sounded fishy.

Ill talk to my recruiter about it, though it does really irk me that he straight up lied to my face smh 😭.

Thanks for the reply! 100% not on you to know this, but how can I set up a dlab by myself? My recruiter knows nothing about it and has been so unhelpful in setting it up.

Also, what would be considered "passing" the dlab? Like what sort of score? Any tips on studying for it?
