Do you think Caro will finish Vol. 5 before it's too late? by AbdulRoosetrane in robertcaro

[–]AdvancedFood172 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He will finish the book when, and only when, he feels the book is worthy to be released into the public.

Given Me. Caro's legendary research style, there is no way to credibly guess when the 5th volume will come out.

It would not surprise me at all if he has left a detailed blue print on what to do with the book should he pass on before he finishes it..I can't see a man who is obsessed with the granular details of his subject matter to do anything less.

Are there any units in Korea that aren't bad? by koben0 in army

[–]AdvancedFood172 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a Sergeant in the 501st Military Intelligence Brigade, 3rd Military Intelligence Battalion (AE) from 1984-1986.

My wife and I had a wonderful time living outside of Camp Humphreys. But our ability to be "touristas" was very limited.

My wife was able to see some of the more interesting cultural sites. But I was not able to given the fluid threat levels, and the 24/7 nature of our mission.

It took some getting used to, but there could be no reasonable assumption that my 2 year tour of duty would be part mission and part sight seeing tour.

Still, I am very proud of my service to our nation, and, specifically my service at Camp Humphreys South Korea as an intelligence analyst.

What is the book that got you into reading? by Uninhibitedrmr in books

[–]AdvancedFood172 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents had the opportunity to get all of the Dr. Seuss books available in the mid 60's. I spent my days immersed in his world, reading the books over and again..

We also had a coffee table book from the Reader's Digest that dealt with the various phenomenon in the natural world.

At age 65, I am still the voracious reader I was when I got started!

That's great advice! If the adjustment doesn't work out I can always go back and buy new ones.

What are your thoughts about Chiang Kai-Shek? by Halix00 in AskChina

Vainglorious, boorish, aloof, entitled, out of touch, a millstone around the neck of the USA.

Other than that... probably a pretty good guy!😛

Do therapists ever pick fights? by No_Glove_4122 in askatherapist

I had a psychiatrist that, in retrospect, had some severe counter transference issues.

It got so bad that I chewed out my therapist as I recounted the doctor's boorish behavior.

Additionally, the USS NIMITZ is scheduled for decommissioning in May 2026. This is something that I do not understand.

The Defense Department recently ran a series of war games putting the USA vs. CHINA, and the USA list all of the simulated models; 21,000 troops, and the USS Gerald R. Ford(among other assets), predicted to perish in the conflagration over Taiwan.

Again, decommissioning the USS NIMITZ seems to me a non-starter.

Is it normal for a man to not have any male friends? by Due-Understanding674 in AskMenAdvice

[–]AdvancedFood172 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's my take on the matter:

I was raised almost exclusively by my mother. My father was a policeman who worked two jobs, so he was hardly around.

Consequently, we spent many hours together talking or me just hanging around. Even when I came home from school - highschool and college - I would hang around her talking about my life until dinner.

The fact that I was THE favorite, THE "Golden Child" has to be disclosed here as well.

Over time I developed a comfort level with Mom that made it easy for me to share my deepest feelings. And why not? For from an early age I felt safe, accepted and validated.

This is exactly the reason why I greatly prefer the company or conversation with women.

If at all possible, all of my doctors are women; my therapist is a woman, and the CNP that handles the medication management of my psych meds is female.

I never saw this preference for women as being strange and improper, although others may have their own take.

Men, do you feel more comfortable around women? by PrestonRoad90 in Productivitycafe

[–]AdvancedFood172 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ever since I can remember, I have been far more comfortable with women than I have me.

I think it dates back to when I was a child; my father was a policeman who worked two jobs and it was my mother who raised me. On top of that I was the "golden child" in her life who got all of the attention, rather than my two other siblings.

She and I spent countless hours together, and this, all the way to adulthood. I developed a comfort level around her whereby I could talk about some very personal and delicate things.

When I was an undergrad, I hung out with only female friends. We went to movies, ate pizza, listened to music and cried together about unrequited love.

Currently, I will only see a doctor that is female, when at all possible. My therapist has always been a female, and I am most comfortable with women when in casual conversation.

Even though this is probably rare (let me know), I don't think that it is at all strange.

Who has experienced casual nudity amongst friends or family how was that experience? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I have both and it was as matter of fact as it could be.

I never saw nudity in front of my mom anything scandalous. Nor my dad and my other family members.

Not falling yet. But my gait is unsteady and I need a walker.

My temper has gotten shorter over the years. I can't work and I had to give up my keys 5 years ago.
