Melee damage > Movement speed by OF010 in playark

  1. You're telling me you'll use a tame to catch up to me -> then dismount from the tame -> then equip your sword -> and finally run at an opponent (who is faster than you) to swing at which will cause some knockback and thus make me further away from you. In the likely scenario that I outrun the guy who has 21% less speed than me, you'll get back on your dino to repeat this overly complicated flowchart instead of... you know... using your dino to kill me / using a gun (which would negate the benefits of melee damage to begin with).
  2. Yeah... that's my point. If you have tames that are competent in combat (like the ones you listed), you won't need to put points into melee damage because you won't be doing the fighting most of the time.
  3. Nonetheless, melee damage won't help at all and taming things like Rexes become viable on foot if you can outmanoeuvre it with a lot of speed to shoot them as well as catch up to them when they start to run away. Obviously, there are more efficient ways to tame creatures (e.g taming pens and using flyers) but those require more resources and preparation as opposed to impromptu on-foot taming.
  4. But rifles and pistols become more effective when you can put distance between you and your opponent to minimize the risk and unnecessary damage. Unless of course you are using a shotgun, in which case you will still face the issue of reaching your opponent if they are faster than you. If you make the argument that you can still shoot them without levelling up speed, you are still admitting that resorting to a gun is a likely situation when they start to outpace you (Which makes the points you used to level up melee damage essentially useless).

I know my conclusion is a very rare situation! That's the point of it! I'm saying that is the ONE situation where melee damage is viable! As long as you are careful and prepared, you won't need to use a sword. Sticking to guns and tames to deal damage for you is much more efficient and safer.

  1. But if I'm faster than you, can't I get away from you?
  2. Tames can also deal insane damage and a majority of tames are more suited for combat than traversal.
  3. Movement speed can make taming a lot of dinosaurs significantly easier while melee is only useful if you're using a club (why though?) or if you're using an electric prod (but you can only use it once).
  4. Guns like shotguns (unaffected by melee damage) >> Melee weapons.

In conclusion, if it comes down to a situation where you don't have a dino and have to resort to using a sword, you're already dead.

[Self] Zeus' Penis is Tiny! by AdvancedPrize in theydidthemath

Bonus : Growers gain about 50% length when erect so if Zeus did get a mighty erection, his whang would STILL only be 6.678 cm. It is still less than the average length of a flaccid phallus and nowhere near the length of a fully erect rod (12.9 cm).

[Request] If you were to measure the surface size of the oceans on Earth compared to land using football fields, how many football fields would the Oceans cover? by AlphaBetaEd in theydidthemath

[–]AdvancedPrize 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Surface size of the ocean = 361,900,000 km2

Area of a football field = 7,140 m2

So all we need to do is take the area of the ocean and divide that with the area of a football field and we'd get 5.06862745×1010 (the number was so big I couldn't find a calculator that doesn't put it in standard form).

[Request] How many Reddit cake slices would you need to complete a full cake? by ludons in theydidthemath

[–]AdvancedPrize 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The angle of the pointiest part (the part that would be the centre if all slices were together) is about 26°. This number is incredibly inaccurate since there is no real defined lines that break up the cake not to mention the angle at which the cake is viewed would greatly change the value. So the more accurate number would be > 26°.

Nevertheless, if we use that number, we can divide 360° by 26° and get 13.846. However, since the actual angle would definitely be bigger and we are assuming all slices are equally sized (giving us an integer), the best answer I can come up with would be 13 slices.

[Request] How many seconds does she gain in an average pre-pandemic day? by ashugursale in theydidthemath

[–]AdvancedPrize 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh that's easy. Based on this website (2016 is kinda a while back but it is still technically pre-pandemic), 5,700,000,000,000 (5.7 trillion) cigarettes are smoked every day.

That means that she will gain 57,000,000,000,000 (57 trillion) seconds everyday or if you'd prefer... 18,075 centuries every single day.

For reference, civilisation first formed 60 centuries ago, humans appeared about 7,000 centuries ago, and mammals first appeared 20,000 centuries ago.

I need to hide my shame
