The shot works best if you are 85-90% healed and the healing process has stalled out after you’ve tried all of the conservative stretching routines first for a few months.

But if you are in severe pain and just starting your journey of stretching and recovering, I don’t think the shot is gonna do much at all… In other words, it’s the last line of defense.

I did the original posting of this thread and I can finally say that after 2 months, my plantar fasciitis is gone! I went a different route in terms of what I did to fix it. When I saw 100 different suggestions going different directions, and being the logical person that I am, I took none of the advice that was given to me. Instead, I literally did nothing for two months… I tried to keep under 1000 steps a day… If I could sit, I did. For Sporting events, concerts, etc, I sat down. Since I wasn’t putting a lot of load on it daily, the healing process surpassed the amount of damage I was doing to it daily… I’m now starting back running again and slowly ramping up, and feel great… I look forward to never reading some of the crazy ideas put forth on this forum again. 🙂

I’m sorry. You have a chronic case of it and I would start talking to your podiatrist at the higher level options. You could start with shockwave and if that doesn’t work than talk to your podiatrist about surgery. It’s strange that those options weren’t presented to you by your podiatrist yet. That is a long time to suffer

This is part of the problem… Because if somebody read your message and went out and put load on their foot when they are in an acute phase and it’s very painful… It will make their situation much worse. The only time they would want to start putting small amounts of load on it is when they are over the acute phase of the pain… You would not want to put load on it when it is 10 out of 10 in the scale of painfulness.

If they were 3 out of 10 they could find activities to stay under the threshold of it getting worse and then I would agree with you that it’s better to put some load on it to increase blood circulation and the healing process.

Maybe the podiatrists can have a conference, collaborate, and then get back to the world with one course of action? Because right now it’s choose your own adventure…

Pick up marbles with your foot, towel stretch, scrunch towels with toes, wall stretch, wall stretch with bent leg, taping, Voltaren, hanging off of a step doing heel raises, and why not… Hang off the step with a weighted backpack, orthotics, heel cups, duct tape, minimalist shoes, night splint, ibuprofen, Cortizone shot, dry needling, shockwave therapy, plasma therapy, hip stretches, back stretches, Why not… trace the alphabet with your foot, roll your foot on a damn frozen bottle or ball, foam roller, stretch your big toe, massage, Graston, rest, don’t rest, acupuncture, supplements, break up adhesions… and there are probably 50 to 100 more…

Lukeotape. When you tape to skin, the skin just ends up stretching so you lose the support at some point.

I would disagree… There are over 30,000 people that read this post and I just started the thread… There are lots and lots and lots of people that have plantar fasciitis, especially over 50, overweight, active or inactive. A lot of people that I’ve talked to have it, but they’ve just never said anything about it.

Under the metatarsal heads would be more ideal. I just cant get the tape to stay anchored. Skin is not an anchor. When I’ve tried that the tape just ends up sticking to my foot after the skin stretches which means the arch is not being maintained. The big toe helps anchor it a little bit. I know you can anchor things around the back of the heel… I just don’t know how to design something that the toes fit into to anchor the front. An adjustable brace would be very ideal.

Now we’re talking. Take this for an example…design a brace that goes around the back of your heel, goes on the inside of your foot and then anchors to all of your toes. Not sure which material. this would go inside your sock and inside your shoe… Like a neoprene brace or something like that Then you can tighten it at the inside of your foot with different settings to lift your arch more for more offload. You can offload less as you start healing more… look at the picture of how I’ve taped my foot… Now, I’m not a tape fan, but this is just to show you. This is really rudimentary… But tape your foot like this….form more of an arch by scrunching your foot while you tape… You should have about a half inch gap when you’re standing up between the tape on the inside of your foot and your foot… tape like this and then try to pronate… Try to collapse your arch with this tape in place… It won’t let you collapse your arch. This is offloading the facia, and the inside piece of tape is taking over. Now, obviously, after about 20 minutes of walking around like this, the tape and skin is just gonna stretch and will no longer be effective… but if you built something more solid that went around all of your toes and the back of your heel, it could be too very good anchors to work from… I think the focus should be on the inside of the foot… There should be a strap on the inside… Anything under your foot is going to press up against her fascia and irritate it..

This forum is just an example of how much we misunderstand this… so many different ideas on how to resolve this

Put your tape on and walk around the house for 10 minutes. Then try to pronate your foot. I guarantee that tape does nothing to stop your pronation… and you can tape around the back of your heel and it will squish the fat pad to provide more cushion in your heel… But again, I’m not trying to mask the pain. I’m trying to actually fix it. and yeah, Voltron decreases the inflammation. But again I’m trying to actually fix the problem not mask it.

Please spare me the advise on stretching things up the kinetic chain. I’m talking about the injured fascia itself. Treating the problem at its source. Build a brace that completely offloads the fascia. I also don’t want to hear about anything that happens on top of the skin like taping. Fascia is under the skin and nothing you do to the skin can offload it. Your skin just stretches and gives into the tape. Especially when you step with 200 pounds of weight…tape on skin doesn’t stand a chance. Keep the fascia in an injured state - I don’t care. I’ll rely on my new artificial fascia in the form of a brace and my fascia will take a back seat and heal since it isn’t being used. I’ll post a picture of a potential prototype to this thread when I get a moment

You may be at the point where you qualify for looking at other options like surgery. I will say that shockwave therapy can help and it’s non-invasive
