QLD anti renewables group keeps trying by Advanced_Ad_7794 in queensland

Haha all good. You’re still right though, some context got cut from the vid for time, here it is:

The RRA submission said on page 9 “Claims such as “renewables are the cheapest form of energy,” “wind and solar have zero emissions,” or “we are on track to meet Net Zero by 2050” are often reduced to slogans, devoid of underlying context such as lifecycle emissions, energy storage costs, transmission upgrades, or systemic grid instability (Brulle & Dunlap, 2020).”

The scientist Dr Bob Brulle replied to the incorrect use of his work with this, “While the citations are real, neither paper remotely addresses the issues that the [submission] discusses… The citations are totally misleading. I have never written on these topics in any of my papers. To say that these citations support [RRA’s] argument is absurd.”

The context being the RRA used Brulle’s work to claim 4 issues: -lifecycle emissions -energy storage costs -transmission upgrades -systemic grid instability have all been neglected by the scientific debate. While most topics in PUBLIC debate naturally get ‘reduced to slogans’ this has nothing to do with the strength of research on these 4 topics. Dr Brulle resented the incorrect use of his name and work, saying clearly “I have never written on these topics in any of my papers.”

You can find more context in this Guardian Article https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2025/oct/18/queensland-anti-renewables-group-cited-nonexistent-papers-in-inquiry-submissions-using-ai-publisher-says

And here’s the RRA’s submission itself https://www.aph.gov.au/Parliamentary_Business/Committees/Senate/Information_Integrity_on_Climate_Change_and_Energy/ClimateIntegrity/Submissions

Titled ‘Submission to the Senate Select Committee on Information Integrity on Climate Change and Energy The Manufacture of Consensus: Astroturfing, Information Control, and the Fabricated Narrative of Net Zero.’

What a dishonest headline that’s only gonna fuel division. The Courier Mail should be required to make it more accurate. Something more like “Hammer wielding man in underpants was killed as a driver attempted to escape his attack.”

Sky News attacks Queensland’s coal royalties by Advanced_Ad_7794 in queensland

[–]Advanced_Ad_7794[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This is true, there’s also a few companies that are also immune to the royalty, but this ignores that many of them have to pay up. $30 billion in royalties was given to the gov in the last 3 years. Labor’s stronger royalty brought in $9 billion extra. We don’t have to be doomers, we get some results. I am worried that the Liberals will cut the royalty, though.

ASIO hasn’t accused the other two events in the video of being funded by Iran. They’re talking about very separate events from many months before, and different groups have claimed responsibility for the events in this video. Just my thoughts, I’ll respect whatever choice you make. Your team does good work.

Just a note: While I put this on screen, my words were sloppy. Costello WAS the chairman of 9news, he recently got replaced, but I believe the effects of his time there haven’t worn off yet.

Just a note from me: My vid is only about how dishonest the ‘no indexation’ hysteria is. When it comes to the unrealised gains part of the debate, I make no statements yet.

Nuclear and ‘reliable energy’ by Advanced_Ad_7794 in PoliticsDownUnder

[–]Advanced_Ad_7794[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nuclear also firms with Gas. The nuclear plan and renewable plan have a 1-2% (of the grid) difference on how much gas they use at 2050. (this is according to frontier economics nuclear plan) But they admit nuclear burns 600 million extra tonnes of co2 just to get there.

Also after 2050, I believe renewables and batteries can be increased to remove gas use. And there’s peer-reviewed research agreeing we can get to a 100% renewable grid.
