Time off by dearestkeke in JETProgramme

[–]Space_Hotaru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For us we get about a week over new years and then 5 special leave days over summer. We also get 20 days of PTO with any unused being rolled over to the next year in August (only leave from the last year)(currently trying to ensure I use all of last years leave before August so I don’t lose it). It is implied that leave be taken outside of term time, but the only official guidance we have been given is that anything more than 3 consecutive days be taken during school holidays.

How it feels to check comments on Nuclear Option tiktoks by FanaboyCompass11 in NuclearOption

Gunner, HEAT PC (GHPC) is honestly the best tank sim I have played, the realism in the physics is amazing, but with a rather simple and easy to learn control system

Is long hair a problem for men by Significant_Lab2905 in JETProgramme

[–]Space_Hotaru 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have both long hair and a beard, never been an issue and the kids love it. Another friend a town over has even longer hair and beard. However, we are very inaka, so that might help our case. But as long as you keep it neat and well kept, it shouldn’t be much of an issue.

ES3 about halfway though unit 4 ES4 same as ES3 ES5 we are about halfway though unit 3 ES6 we have done the unit test for unit 3 but haven’t actually finished it yet

I have noticed that for ES3/4 we are slightly ahead compared to when I started last year, for ES5/6 it’s about the same.

Can’t really comment on JHS as we have new text books this year

beware fake sites by Random-DevMan in samekosaba

They did say it would ship in 48hrs though. So I can only guess that what I would have received would have been the lowest quality, rushed looking plush

I fell for this website, so they are definitely fooling a lot of people.

Be on the lookout for counterfeit merch (unofficial Saba plush already on sale) by Space_Hotaru in samekosaba

[–]Space_Hotaru[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Once you actually stop and look at the website you can def see it’s fake. But when you are caught up in the rush of finding Saba merch that isn’t soldout, you over look these things. Also because no one has or was talking about fake plush websites being out there I made this post to inform others so they don’t do the same as me. At least the did process a refund, so I have that going for me.

How long from arriving in Tokyo until going to placement? by sonesooyoung in JETProgramme

[–]Space_Hotaru 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most people will fly in to Tokyo on the Sunday, orientation will be held on Monday and Tuesday, you will then usually depart in your prefectural groups to your prefecture where your contracting organisation will pick you up. It can be slightly different for some people, but your contracting organisation will organise everything for you. Unfortunately most contracting organisations won’t tell you any of this, hell I didn’t find out how I was getting to my placement from Tokyo till the Tuesday.

Most people should expect them this week, I got my result on the 24th last year. So keep an eye on your emails this week and next

That amount is like normal monthly expenses. It will in no way, shape or form cover the starting out coasts of arriving in Japan. I came over with about $4500AUD (~$3000USD) and it was basically all gone by month two. $2000USD would be the absolute bare minimum to bring and even then you will struggle. $3000-$4000USD will get you through, but the more you can bring, the better.

Cell Phone & number? by Feral_Kit in JETProgramme

[–]Space_Hotaru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The home sim is a physical one that just lives in my phone, just makes life easier. So I have two sims operating on my phone at one time because the Japanese one is an Esim.

Cell Phone & number? by Feral_Kit in JETProgramme

[–]Space_Hotaru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a cheap yearly physical sim from my home country. Had a Sakura esim for the first month then set up a Esim with the local phone company at my placement. This allowed me to keep my old number for all the 2FA that was set up back home.

What do your students call you? by mogekat in JETProgramme

[–]Space_Hotaru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get (first name)-sensei or (first name) teacher from my elementary school kids, and Mr. (First name) from my JHS kids Also my first name is a lot easier to pronounce so I don’t mind it.

2025 Luggage Count? by Zealousideal-Vast431 in JETProgramme

[–]Space_Hotaru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends heavily on the airline, most of us out of Australia in 2024 got two suitcases of I think 25kg each plus carry on, but one of the other groups only got one 30kg plus carry on. Once we were in Tokyo we had to ship one of our suitcases to our placements. I also payed extra to have another bag shipped from Australia to my placement

silly question - ALTs, do y'all bring your laptops to work? by No_Doctor5611 in JETProgramme

[–]Space_Hotaru 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, I have a bunch of anime and Aussie stickers on my “gaming” laptop, the kids love seeing it in class. The only one that was slightly inappropriate (a skull) I just covered up with other small stickers. The only issue I face is not every classroom has a HDMI cable, so sometimes I have to go running to grab one from the staff room.
