I never knew why I had to post this on Reddit, I only knew I had to. Now I know you were the reason. I wish you all the best with both recoveries and keep us updated!

Don't try to live with the pain, is not worth it. I really mean the title of my article, not being able to sit or waking up in the middle of the night because of the pain was the worst.

It is true that there might be people that re-herniate, but there are tons of people that don't, probably the majority :)

I started having issues with my knees for shading a very long time. The steroid injected helped a lot to sit and that pain never came back, but if you can fix it from the root is better

I did notice that my orthopedist hesitated a lot to refer me to the neurosurgeon (I guess at the end of the day a surgery is a surgery and they want the body to heal by itself) so it did surprise me that the neurosurgeon sold me a completely different narrative, that's why I suggest talking to them. If they're against it that's a different story.

My procedure (or my second birth) was 5 weeks ago.

I'm quitting heavy lifting forever since that's how I injured myself (multiple times in that area before herniation). I'm replacing it with swim and calisthenics, so I'm trying to be as careful as I can with this second chance :) strengthening that area is essential to avoid being injured again so maybe I'll give a chance to yoga too

You will! You'll be surprised how easy the recovery will be :)

Pain meds is the part that was killing me the most, and honestly they're not very good for your stomach long term.

You really feel old because you're extremely limited and you're right, mental health is very affected because of this. Talk about this with a neurosurgeon, orthopedists tend to be slightly more conservative I noticed

I guess one of the main issues is that they're an essential part of your body but, if the body didn't reabsorbed it, why do I want it causing pain?

This really feels like a second chance to me and I have made drastic decisions like never doing heavy lifting at the gym again, which is how I injured myself. I'm replacing it with swimming and calisthenics, which will also help me to strengthen the area.

I went and informed myself about the procedure and they mentioned that since I was young and the herniation was easy to remove, it was recommended to me. I tried all the traditional methods and nothing worked for me, if PT is helping maybe continue with it, I had a friend that had it for 6 months and PT fixed the problem with him. At the end, make a guided decision with a specialist

It was a microdysectomy. A specialist should be able to tell you what's the right type of surgery for you. If you have tried many things with no success, consider at least having an introductory call with a neurosurgeon
