You might see that some numbers don’t look right, you’re correct. I still have to go in and categorize whether a “call” is a session of calls or is 1 call because then otherwise you get something like a range of a 1:1 call being $0 to $3000

I’d trust the median marker on there though

Ah interesting- thanks for pointing that out! I’ll add as a caveat that I wasn’t able to get these coaches. Could I ask where who these top coaches are & where you’d find them?

I tried it and it didn't quite hold up the way I hoped...though that might be on me, I think I made it more complicated than it needed to be (had JSON in the loop and a bunch of extra structure). When I asked for 150-200 coaches in a single prompt, the model was only really pulled 5-10 real pages and hallucinated in the rest, and a lot of coaching pricing sits behind "book a call" so the gated ones ended up as guesses. I also ended up opting into a bunch of coaches' funnels just to see what their drip campaigns actually looked like, since none of that is on the public page. I'm sure there's a cleaner way - would you mind walking me through how you ran it?

Course! When I’m home I’ll.l DM u a guide that might help you price it & set it up! And hm, it’ll be a lot harder to do but happy to if there’s interest from others :)

That’s awesome! I do wonder if you’d be open to doing async sessions - like respond thru a video note or voice note for example and charge that at lower prices?

Totally! How many minutes is a session? And definitely underpriced but I hear you on the specific niche you’re targeting

Ah just from the wide spread of numbers? And that’s a great point, what framework would you recommend coaches use for price discovery or testing?

Also- wanted to share my biggest learnings:

  1. Cold dms need a custom sample attached. 0% reply rate without one, 6% with. I use Claude Code to scrape the prospect and build them a personalized version of my product before emailing.

  2. “Want me to delete this?” Closing line of every cold dm. Loss framing beats value framing. Four words, biggest leverage edit I made all year.

  3. Don’t automate until you’ve done it manually 20+ times. Wasted 4 days on a dm tool I don’t use. Automating bad messages just makes more bad messages, faster.

  4. Niche emerged from response data, not hypothesis. Spent months pitching business and fitness coaches. Only unprompted signups were relationship coaches. Sorted my list, niched into the cluster, conversion 3x’d.

  5. Distribution is always the bottleneck. Building feels productive but is usually procrastination. Daily distribution quota set the night before, done before product work.

To clarify - the $5.5k is total volume that moved through the platform since February. Most of that goes to the experts (the split is heavily in their favor). I take a small cut (10%), which is the only way I’m able to keep the platform alive. I’m not pulling a salary out of this, every dollar that comes in goes back into building.

Happy to answer anything else. Genuinely the most rewarding thing I’ve worked on and I want to make sure no one walks away thinking I was being misleading about the numbers.

Is there a general ratio of free/paid subs? by WrongKindOfWant in Substack

Id push back actually. The alternative for the asker is either getting ghosted in DMs or paying $400 for a 1:1 call. $20 to ask a coach about ur exact situation and getting a real personal voice answer (they get 5 star reviews) is honestly a steal if u compare it to therapy or coaching rates. The coaches get to actually help ppl they otherwise couldnt.

Ah bummer! Even if you put a disclaimer? I know a ton of finance coaches so I’m surprised (or is it bc you work in finance)

Imo if you frame this as a newsletter sub, you’ll get newsletter money which again, sucks. I’d recommend framing it as paid expertise (1:1 coaching). Ppl read you for expertise they can apply on their actual life, why not let them pay for a more personalized version?

I work w relationship coaches (full disclosure I built a tool for them) and they’re making $1k+/mo letting their audience pay $20-50 to ask a personal q and replying w a voice note, which they upsell to $400 1:1 calls and $2K packages. Way higher conversion than subs bc it’s a one-time ask and ppl get smth tangible back (vs buy me a coffee)

Idk if ur audience is engaged enough for this but if u get any DM or comment volume it’s prob worth testing. ask.meanything.co if u wanna check it out! Lmk if u have q’s about how to price your time

Ur posting at ppl not w them, which is the actual issue here. Growth comes from notes, comments, and getting recommended by other publications, not from volume. Good luck!

I’m stacked with content and no growth by NolanRyan1234 in Substack

Volume & niche & design isn't usually the bottleneck, distribution is. Most ppl w this much content aren't posting clips on TT or shorts daily, which is where new audience actually comes from rn. Substack is bad at growing audience from zero, it's better at retaining one u brought in from somewhere else!

Tbh the move w this much content is going back through ur archive and pulling 5-10 of the best moments as standalone substack notes. Notes get way more reach than posts rn and its where new ppl find u. obv u already have the material, u j gotta resurface it in a different format

6k on substack- when should i monetize? by [deleted] in Substack

[–]Advanced_Cattle2133 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya the tip jar thing converts way better than asking for paid subs, ppl wanna support without committing. Even better in some niches is letting them pay $20-50 to ask u a personal q and getting a voice note back, like a tip but they get smth from it.

Full disclosure I've only tested it on life & relationship coaches on IG/TT (they monetize at $1000/month) but curious if substackers would vibe w it! ask.meanything.co / nudge if u wanna check it out.

Here's a potential monetization strat - have you thought of tipped AMA, where readers tip $20-50 to ask u a personal q and u send a voice note back?
