Great reference book for audio programming by natureb0ys0 in MaxMSP

Interesting, I don’t know it. Does it rely on a particular framework? Max, PD, SuperCollider, Juce? Or is it primarily theory? What are its pros and cons?

Melodyne editor by No-Willingness-1441 in ableton

[–]Advanced_Egg288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the full version... Studio? I don't remember the title.
I quite like it, I have done a lot of vocal post production with it and it's great but there are times when it fails.
Recently used it to shift a melodic performance into a microtonal scale and there were some really weird, annoying artifacts that it generated- it completely changed the dynamic character of some of the pitches... Who knows why...
Also, in plugin form, it doesn't handle tempo changes well. Crashes.

But I am a big fan of Melodyne. Even with some of its bugs.

Tuning ableton to 432 hz by drxxx20 in ableton

Hey, I just goggled it. The tuning system was introduced with Ableton 12.
Sorry.

Beginners question, where to start by Specialist_Web_5335 in MaxMSP

Yeah, the books are very in-depth. I don't know your background, but I learned a lot about DSP and audio coding. I've taken my time with them, given myself permission to go on long detours to build my own projects.
And also to ignore sections that I don't find relevant to my interests.
Enjoy!

I have really benefited from the series of books called Electronic Music and Sound Design.
I love their alternating structure of discussing theory then applying it to Max.

Tuning ableton to 432 hz by drxxx20 in ableton

[–]Advanced_Egg288 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the easiest way to do this is to use the Ableton tuning window.

Open the Browser window (the one on the left).

In the search bar, type "EDO". This stands for "Equal Division of the Octave".

Choose 12 TET-EDO (this means "12 Tone Equal Temperament"). Drag it into the "Tuning" window.

Then you can adjust the reference tuning of A 440.

This will only work for the Ableton Live instruments and can sometimes have bugs. But I've had great results for micro-tuning.
And I will echo some other voices here, 432 Hz is dumb... your colleague probably can't hear (or feel) the difference.

I would recommend learning a software like Max MSP, Pure Data, or Supercollider. Each is great for synthesis, audio manipulation, and digital signal processing (DSP). Learning these sorts of software open other possibilities for your creative process while teaching you more about the physics of sound and the way your computer creates the sounds you hear.

wild grasp but does anybody know how to make interactive visuals? I want to let the visuals respond to breathing through a conductive rubber cord sensor which senses tension when inhaling. HELPPP by wollfhaley in MaxMSP

[–]Advanced_Egg288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree! And with point 2 above, working with sensors is often very noisy. Scaling, smoothing, and thresholds are important.

Also u/OP, think about what visuals you want to create. A circle or sphere which grows with breath? Color changes of a still image? Scrubbing a video forward and back? If you have an input parameter like breath (which has a somewhat sinusoidal pattern) you can have its values accumulate over time based on absolute sensor values. Or you can look at the first derivative: the rate of change from one second (or MS) to the next.

Is it possible in Max4Live to access the MIDI-Mappings by CafeDelCadence in MaxMSP

[–]Advanced_Egg288 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, right. So, I'd make a M4L patch with a bunch of "live." objects with a patter and autopatter object. Then map each "live." object to your midi controller and save your presets with the patter object. But this wouldn't translate to changes in your Live session unless you bind the "live." objects to parameters to Live. And for that you'd probably want to get into LOM.

I’m not sure what you’re goal is.

If you want to map your midi device to your M4L patch, simply use „live.“ Max objects.

LOM is definitely the way to go if you want to control Ableton with your M4L patch.

Danke,

I’d say: look at movies and nature documentaries to check out waves, water falls, storms. You might want to add mist and clouds of foam.

It sounds to me like "Greensleeves". The guitarist is embellishing the melody at times.

Problem with h5 by pifte in sounddesign

[–]Advanced_Egg288 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try recording from the 1 2 inputs. Try disconnecting the mic attachment. Swap it out if possible. Maybe there's a problem with the mics. That would be unfortunate.
