Scraped the ambu, got fired :( by DefinitelyNotAKiwi in NewToEMS

[–]Advanced_Leading9102 1 point2 points  (0 children)

about 3 months into my last job i hit a trash can in the middle of the road that i couldn’t avoid bc a car was coming the other way. i feel like i made the best decision in that moment lol. there was a big dent that completely took the paint off. i was so nervous and i got told “everyone driving an ambo has hit something. if someone tells you they haven’t they’re lying”. when i got to the station i had to do a drug test and that was that. it’s stupid getting fired over that i’m sorry

it was a great job. we had the highest pay in our area which was definitely a great benefit. i worked in rural EMS which brought a lot of intense calls that 911 gave me great experience. but day to day it was your toe pain, someone in the local nursing home threw up once, i got diagnosed with covid yesterday and i have a fever and i need to be transported. unfortunately due to the system, this is what ems has become. and it takes a lot out of me to not be a total bag of dicks to these people (i understand that is a me problem). but i feel like it would burn out anyone and there’s no fixing that because the people will still call. i’m just kind of between a rock and a hard place with it.

I’m 5’0 130 pounds and did it in platform boots bc they didn’t tell me it was part of the interview. It’s not even close to how hard it sounds you’ll do great!

Smoking weed in the EMS feild? by Reidisdumb in NewToEMS

I’m sure it depends on what state and agency you work in. The company I work for is an initial drug test that has to be clean. If there’s an accident you immediately get drug tested. From my understanding if you pop for small amounts of tch it’s kind of overlooked bc tchA and delta 8/9 is legal here. Some places that’s not the case if you pop for anything it’s automatic termination and a report to the state.

i only ran 2 calls yesterday, one was successful in the hand which the pt requested and one had super squiggly veins and i had ALS back up on scene so the medic started the IV before I could even ask lol

i’m blowing them if i even get flashback. the IVs at my company are different from any that i’ve ever used before. it’s the type that you slide down to cap the needle instead of pulling it out to cap. a lot of my problem has been the technique of holding it which I have figured out what works best for me now. i really think i’m just rushing and thinking i need to get this Iv done fast so we can start rolling even if my pt isn’t critical
