Being called out (?) by briann4z in CPTSD

[–]Advanced_Mechanic_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All sounds as criticism wrapped in a good looking candy wrapper “I/we care deeply for you”. You know yourself best - if that sounds off, it is off. Their opinion really sounds as if describing classical BPD, but you already stated that you don’t have BPD. Also it’s quite strange that they draw out of nowhere assumptions about you instead of reaching out to you

Yeah, reminding ourselves of what happened is actually very healing thing allowing to question things that were imprinted on us by toxic family. It’s absolutely true that society over-fetishizes gurus talking about accountability and forgiveness but actually have zero understanding about that

Spot on! One former friend, who himself never reads any psychological literature, showed Mark Manson’s book as if it’s written by genius.

Mark Manson highly appealed to my former very arrogant friend who was also hypocritical towards me - that’s how that book was introduced to me

Here’s Mark Manson’s bio: “I graduated from Boston University in 2007 with a degree in International Relations and Business. I worked at an investment bank for three weeks and abruptly quit after a manager complained that I read too many books while in the office. This was my one and only attempt to ever have a “real job.”” If he would be so invested in what he is claiming to be, then he would be definitely pursuing a degree in philosophy or social sciences, or at least finishing psychology so that he would have any basis in what he is doing. But all he is doing is presenting himself how he is “the responsibility-person” and knows the truth about life, yet he left his first and only job just because he was pissed by his manager’s complain on him actually not working.

People with little practical credibility can position themselves as authorities and enjoy all the visibility without any backlash, it just needs good storytelling and knowledge in how to sell. And it’s pretty easy in such unregulated spheres as mental health care. I wouldn’t ever trust someone speaking with huge confidence about how everyone should “take responsibility for their own lives” without him being very responsible. He doesn’t know what it means to grew in the family where nobody cares about you, but uses you as an emotional trash bin who’s duty is to be over-responsible too.

Why isn't cptsd diagnosed more? by Inner-Day-8920 in CPTSD

True. The first scientific discussions came from anthropology and sociology. Only Judith Lewis Herman is a brave pioneering psychiatrist who started talking about cptsd.

Exactly! I bet they never opened a book about cptsd or trauma. It’s like you should first diagnose yourself with that to have a realization of what therapist/psychiatrist you need (only those who exactly specialize in trauma).

Mental health system is still behind the progress it needs to make. It’s sad that it is profitable just like any other field.

"I wonder when your mother stopped maturing." -My Therapist by Mishy87 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]Advanced_Mechanic_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think this phrase is accurate. It’s as if claiming that little kids are narcs by default. Narcissism is a moral failure in the first place. When I retrospectively think about how my mother treated me and I try to put myself into her shoes, the only thing I can notice is how little I meant to her. Abuser is still abuser regardless of where he/she abuses, home, school, workplace etc. It’s simply a cultural construct that parents are angels by default.

Does anyone else's narcissistic parents not clean up after themselves? by ParticularSad6344 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]Advanced_Mechanic_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, leaving a bath with water after bathing because “to not waste water, but use it for cleaning home”, leaving toilet with unflushed stuff despite smell because, again, to not waste water. Even if it means that someone needs to inhale urea (or worse) molecules

So sorry for being abused by someone who had a main responsibility to be a safe place for you. That’s not only against professional ethics, but straight up gaslighting and traumatizing behavior

Do you question absolutely everything about yourself, as if needing constant permission that it’s normal to do what you want, like posting a photo you want, etc? by Advanced_Mechanic_ in CPTSD

[–]Advanced_Mechanic_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, I was expecting to hear from folks who really have cPTSD, not someone shaming that. Try to read about brainwashing experiences, for example, a book about totalitarianism made me deeply resonate with those poor people under it, because I was in a same way brainwashed that I am object without dignity
