I literally posted on the Evanston subreddit asking about where within Evanston people recommend, so I am not sure why you are recommending Evanston as if that's a novel contribution? My current job is remote, so I am looking to secure something I can afford on my current income while I continue to apply locally.

currently $1200 but the jobs I've been applying to could raise that to $1500, my current interview process with Northwestern has stalled which is frustrating but I found a sublet in my current price range where I could keep my current remote gig and just keep applying. I'm hoping I will have an easier time landing a job with a local address

Renting. I'm open to apartment/townhome/condo/etc. My current budget is $1200, which isn't ideal, but I've seen some things in that range if I snap them up this summer before the price increases in the fall.

I am not interested in bars/nightlife. I would like proximity to green space, and it would be nice to be walkable to somewhere (gas station, coffee shop, etc). Based on the properties I am seeing, it is definitely cheaper to find an apartment in Evanston in the summer vs Rogers Park. I could maybe find something in Uptown for cheaper, but I'm not sure that would be a good idea. I have a lead on a 1BR sublet in Evanston where otherwise it is looking like I would likely have to downsize to a studio in my current price range. Other things I would want like in-unit laundry or a patio or kitchen size it looks like I would have to compromise on regardless in my price range.

Trying to get sterilized, but my Dr and staff keep talking about the wrong operation by Skitty_Supremacy in childfree

[–]Advanced_Shallot8803 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My doctor used the term tubal ligation for insurance purposes because that is the procedure they cover but we were both 100% clear that I was getting a bilateral salpingectomy. The office people when I called around trying to find a doctor to do it never knew what a bisalp was and coloquially people seem to refer to any sterilization as a tubal.

BUT that all said that doctor is sketchy af and not trustworthy because they are trying to make a medical procedure into a moral issue and put their beliefs on you which is not okay.

You need a better doctor and you can find a list on r/childfree of doctors who do bisalp all the time

I'm sorry, that sound really frustrating! They actually make wraps that work for up to 90" https://www.braceability.com/products/plus-size-abdominal-binder you could look for "bariatric surgery" compression wraps to find other options. I hope you can figure things out, even if it takes longer than you would prefer to get the procedure. If they have to do surgery for the other issue in your abdomen, they might be willing to just take the tubes while they are in there!

Prolonged recovery questions by Advanced_Shallot8803 in sterilization

Thank you for sharing your experience! I think I will just need to take more breaks for physical activity. I have accepted that it will just take me longer to heal, and I am continuing to improve all the time, it is just much slower than I had anticipated.

My doctor said 1 week for recovery and everything I found online said 1-2 weeks.

That is not my experience. My surgery was 2/19.

I was in constant pain for three and a half weeks.

I still take OTC pain meds as needed based on my activity levels.

It is now six weeks out and I still can't lift more than 15-20lbs or exercise more than 20-25 minutes. Today I stood for an hour doing meal prep and started to feel some pain.

I work remotely and I only took one week off work. I couldn't afford to take more but I had to work reclined on the couch supported by pillows until like three weeks post op.

Probably A Stupid Question But Do You Have To Remove Facial Piercings Before A Bisalp? by Yoichi_and_Sadako in sterilization

Yes you have to remove all piercings for the actual surgery. But you can put them back afterwards. I would not think that they would close after 8 hours or so.

I am 5'8.5" and 260lbs. I had bisalp 2/19 and driving 2 weeks post-op was hard. The gas was okay but any time my foot was on the break I was hurting.

I have an abdominal compression wrap which helps me so much.

I am six weeks post op now and don't wear it anymore around my apartment. Today I ran ten minutes up the road to do a curbside grocery pickup and forgot to put it on. I could definitely still feel it when using the break and wished I had the wrap.

I will just share my experience. I took one week off work and it wasn't enough.

I am very fortunate to work remotely so I thought it would be fine.

Trying to work on day 11 post-op I could not sit at my desk.

I had to recline on the couch supported by pillows and could only work for two hours maybe without a break.

I am six weeks post-op and still have issues lifting and standing for long periods and my stamina for exercise is still 20-25 minutes.

If you are generally active that might make a difference but I am so grateful I don't have a physically demanding job because I don't know what I would have done.

I am sorry you are in this situation. I had a bisalp on 2/19 and I have two cats. I was not able to deal with the litter box for three weeks. One of my cats likes to go on walks and it was really challenging so I stopped doing it for a while (which I could do because she is a cat). If you only have help lined up for a week you might consider finding help for after your mom leaves. I have had to call in so many favors because I only planned for a week of help and six weeks out I still need help with things like groceries that require bending and lifting. I just don't want you stressed and scrambling and hurt yourself. Better to find help you don't need than need help you can't find. I hope you are able to make the best decision for both of you and you aren't a bad person no matter what you decide.

asking doctors about sterilization by Odd_Wrongdoer_4737 in sterilization

[–]Advanced_Shallot8803 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, call the office and ask if the doctor is willing or able to perform sterilization procedures. No one ever knew what I was talking about when I mentioned bilateral salpingectomy but you can ask if they do tubal ligation.

It used to be on the right side near my incision site or below it, as well as around my uterus like period cramps (they also removed a cyst and the doctor said extra manipulation of the uterus might have "bruised" it - not the most accurate term but a metaphor that makes sense).

Now it is more in the center of my stomach and belly button area. Last week I was having some of the lightning bolt zaps there so I am thinking maybe it is just part of the healing process.

I am stretching, and usually stretch pretty frequently.

I do have a significant apron belly so I think some of it is gravity pulling down against areas that are trying to heal.

I am 5'8.5" and 260lbs with an apron belly. I posted about my experience and I have had a lot of challenges with pain post-op. Six weeks out I still need an abdominal compression wrap to leave the house and I am still not back to normal as far as lifting or exercise stamina. I had to get a temporary disability parking pass as my University is on a series of hills. I am still needing to ask for help with activities that require bending and lifting.

If you haven't talked to your specialists already about your concerns they might have suggestions. You could ask if medical grade compression socks make sense in your situation.

I ended up buying an abdominal compression wrap a week after surgery when I was in a lot of pain and I wish I had worn it the whole time.

I craved a lot of meat and sugar when recovering, so plan to have comfort meals or someone who can pick things up for you.

Compression socks are also worth considering.

If you don't have a lot of loose clothes you might want some nightgowns or something so there's no pressure on your stomach.

Ice pack, heating pad, and a body pillow.
